is this normal

I played a full season with the demo.

When it was over. The top HR guy only had 34. There were only 2 players over 30 HR's for the year. It seems a bit low to me. Is this just a freak year.

I only used 10 teams so there was less players available but still............

flanman,

There are a long, long list of factors that could impact or influence statistical results. The year of your association (remember, in the past, 50+, 60+ or even 70+ HR seasons were not normal) will play a role. Which parks you used (accurate parks tend to generate more accurate results) also has an effect. Sometimes too, just plain randomness will make an appearance-- it's a simulator, not a replicator-- you won't get perfect results each time.

In a 14-year fictional association I play, it wasn't until the 3rd (or 2nd, I can't remember) year that someone broke the 50 HR mark. Currently our record is only 57.

Thanks for response.

I think the year was 1986 (whatever year the demo defaults at).

I understand that things will be random. I actually like it that way. There would be no point in playing a season if I knew exactly what everyone would do again.[:)]

I was just a bit surprised how low the HR's were for the entire league. not just for 1 or 2 players.

Maybe homeruns in 1986 were very low. I do not have a lot of knowledge about stats from 20 years ago.

Thanks again for answering me. I cant wait to start up my own league this week and see where things take me.

Im trying to decide on doing a historical league or just creating everything brand new.[&:]

flanman,

Want to see something really cool? Check this screen shot out, I took it from MLB.com:

Image

There were 12 players with 30 or more home runs and the leader had just 40, 2nd place had 37. So, though a little under at 34, your association's HR totals were actually surprisingly close.

One of the billions of reasons I love this game.

I have had season that had the leader at 20 in the 1900's.

The NL numbers have been up do to the small parks in Boston (Braves) - South End Grounds (dimensions), and Philadelphia (Phillies) - Baker Bowl (dimensions).

You can look here : tm.asp?m=1621899

OR

see Baseball Statistics in my sig for hr totals for 1903 thru 1913
