Admirals Edition Naval Thread

Post by Terminus »

This is for all general questions regarding naval matters in the Admirals Edition. Don't ask very specific questions, ask for screenshots, specific unit data, etc. It's not that we don't want you to have them, but we don't want to promise something specific now that's not going to be in the final product.

Hi there.
First: The Ad-on looks great.

How will the AI cope with the INCREASED difficulty of this new version, espesially with the convoy routing routine?

Hopefully it'll cope quite well... (read: it's being worked on very heavily).

I'm not sure where to ask this T, but here it is. Will there be additional, larger, display formats? 1024x768 is either very small( windowed ) or very grainy on my 24" widescreen. [:)]

There's going to be two or three other threads, including one for the general questions. The resolution stuff is kinda off my plate as Naval Team boss...

I have seen a new mission type: midget sub carrier. Will there be other new mission types?
In the screenshot of Hiroshima/Kure are two new create buttons, one for midget subs and one for MGB´s. What is a MGB?

Thanks.

Yeah, there's going to be some new mission types, as well as modifications to existing ones. MGB = Motor Gun Boat.

What about the surface combat engine?

Im refering to the current issues, amongst others, BBs not using their main armament, the propensity of some units to only fire when fired upon. Not to mention the old "my 4 cruisers stumbled upon a covoy of 15 Aks and only damaged two before the end of the engagement"
The era of procrastination, of half-measures, of soothing and baffling expedients, of delays, is coming to a close.
In its place we are entering a period of consequences..

I saw that there will be changes to the supply and fuel system.

I noted refining capacity......question will there be two types of fuel? One for the battlewagons and one for the aircraft? It has always got me that all you need is "fuel 10,000" and you can fly 500 planes for quite some time, however in reality specialized avaiation fuel became a huge problem later in the war.

On the screenshot with the BB Tennessee, it shows flood and engine damage with (22 Major) behind it.
Is there going to be a difference in how fast repair happens between regular damage and major damage? And can we control which ships get priority for repairs?

We're looking into that; it might not make it for first release, but there are patches planned.

Just for the record, aircraft don't use Fuel in the stock game, but supplies. The refining capacity is part of the new industry model.

Major damage can only be repaired in shipyards, whilst minor stuff can be fixed by any of the three other types of repair. And yes, the player can prioritize which ships go first.

How about the surface combat routine where 2 ships return effective fire on 10 ENEMY ships.. (1 ship firing on ALL ships in range)

How are ship repairs handled at major ports (Pearl, SF, ect) now?

For instance, in my PBEM game right now, at Pearl I have 10 BB's that have light damage (under 20) but about 30 subs with heavy damage. As far as I can tell, the subs are stealing all the repair from the BB's.

Can we give ships priority to be repaired first? Can we apply repair points directly and manually to ships?

Thanks

Edit - I just saw you post you put above while I was typing.
