New scenarios?

Post by berto »

For lack of time and inclination (I don't like alternate history that strays too much from Real Life), I have no interest at all in playing full-war scenarios of WiTP spanning a year or more. Not to mention that I will only play against the AI, and any AI, algorithmic or scripted, will degrade in long-running campaigns.

Is there any hope that modders will eventually create "battle" or "campaign" scenarios encompassing corners of the map and lasting a few months at most?

It would be cool, for instance, to play a Battle of Leyte Gulf scenario, or a conquest of Malayasia/Singapore scenario, just to give two among potentially many other examples.

Failing that, is there any hope that the WiTP Admiral Edition upgrades will be retrofitted to an Uncommon Valor Admiral Edition, or instead that a redone Uncommon Valor (and other spinoff games, e.g., Navy/Marine operations in the central Pacific) might appear?

I think that WiTP:AE is a wargamer's dream come true, but some of us only have time for short catnaps!

Hey Berto,

We're planning on including some smaller scenarios with the AE release, though the list isn't set in stone yet. Also, the AE 40 miles/hex scale is not that much larger than the UV 30 miles/hex scale, so adapting UV scenarios or other small scenarios should be a lot easier - especially with the new editor!

Thanks, Erik.

For years now, I've been tempted to purchase WiTP, as I have extreme interest in the subject matter (I've lived six years in the Philippines, was a Chinese language minor in college, etc.).

But I had to be honest with myself. If I bought WiTP, I would install it, look around and ooh and aah, and start a game or two. But the lack of time--including time to play the many other fine games by Matrix and other wargaming companies--would sooner rather than later force me to "shelve" the game.

I've wasted too much money over the years (had 80+ SPI games at one point, most of them unplayed) to spend on yet another white elephant.

Shorter campaign and battle scenarios would make this game viable for me. And who knows? It might induce lots of other fence sitters to jump down and join the fray!

Please, Matrix and/or modders, beyond a few token scenario ports, give the formal commitment to developing many more campaign and battle scenarios some very serious consideration.

Bump and agree. Rather than start a new thread it seemed better to post in this one.

I think you should give serious consideration to porting the UV scenarios to AE. If necessary, make them a 'bonus' pack that's unlocked via a UV activation key or installation on the hard drive.

Why? So people who own WitP but not UV can't play them? That seems somewhat idiotic...

On the AE scenario list, we've now established a 50-50 ratio between big and small scens. Much superior to the stock WitP ratio.

Well, I'd prefer they be generally available. But if a reason for not converting the UV scenarios is concern that nobody would buy UV anymore, that would be a solution; that's why I said "if necessary".

What I'd really like to see - and I don't know if this is what you mean by 'small' scenarios - is really more akin to medium ones. That is, NOT just simulating a single battle but simulating a campaign in a limited theater for a limited time period. So you have time for reinforcements to arrive, to conserve your forces for future battles instead of just for VPs, to see the tide go back and forth, have to do resupply runs, set up invasions etc.

It seems UV did this very well, and there really aren't a whole lot of historical WW2 areas that fit this bill, although you could always make some hypothetical situations. Thus my suggestion the already successful scenarios be ported to make use of the new, wonderful features (now both the WITP and the AE features).

In my mind at least, the difference between big and small scenarios is that the former uses the full map.
