Import/Export of Map Data

Post by FredSanford3 »

I've read through the map making manual, and I didn't see anything about importing/exporting and/or copy/pasting data such as contour polygons (as *.shp or *.dxf, if I recall the file extensions correctly) into the appropriate layers. Is there a backdoor way, or at least a way contemplated in the future?

BTW, there are some map making and survey/engineering packages that could take that exact data, and develop 3D topo from it, render it, and bring it back into the game. All the derived data, such as slopes and spot elevations and consequent LOS's, would still be possible to access.

[in Homer Simpson voice]:...mmmm, 3D maps....ooooohhhh <drool>

Yes it would be nice. Eventually we want to allow for the import and export of standard GIS data types. But this is a BIG job and will have to wait for now.
