A replay suggestion

Gary Grigsby’s World at War is back with a whole new set of features. World at War: A World Divided still gives complete control over the production, research and military strategy for your side, but in this new updated version you’ll also be able to bring spies into the mix as well as neutral country diplomacy, variable political events and much more. Perhaps the largest item is the ability to play a special Soviet vs. Allies scenario that occurs after the end of World War II.

A replay suggestion

Post by Lebatron »

One thing I would still like to see improved would be how the replay feature shows moving units. Even with FOG on, it's rather impossible to hide redeployments when opponents carefully watch the replay. If the game engine is capable, what I propose is that only units that start their move seen would be shown moving. Additionally if that unit moves into FOG, only the first move into the FOG is shown to give you a general idea of direction of travel. Example. The German player moves 2 tac air from Western Germany to Sardinia. Now on the UN turn suppose that player can only see coastal Europe, therefore he could see the 2 tac air move out of Western Germany and into the first FOG region, say Austria, then disappear from view. What I like about this is that after Austria the UN player has no idea where they went.

Proposed replay rules
* Units would never be seen moving if they stayed within Fog the whole time.
* Units that start off hidden but then move through visible regions would be seen moving, but only in the visible areas.
* Units that start off visible would be seen moving through visible areas in addition to the first FOG area.

The reason why I propose a unit be seen moving into the first FOG area and not just disappear when doing so is to allow the viewing player an easier time following movements. Without that a unit moving from say Western Germany( a visible area) to Austria which is in FOG would just vanish from Western Germany, and that would be hard to notice. This method keeps visible movement paths to a minimum of 2 regions.

I'm not sure how hard this would be to code. Brian would have to chime in here to let us know.

While I agree, I cannot imagine it happening.
