Outflank

I have seen Outflank being used a few times, especially by myself, but i am told what the other guys chit is, before i decide on the force to outflank, now reading the rules, i note that it also says this, but game dont follow the rules!!!

also in the normal game, outflank require a leader to do it, have this been changed for this game, as i noted Austria doing it with 2 cav corps on a mountain of all places and no leader, so just had a 1 leader and with 1 penalty, so failed first try?

I don't beleive you need a leader for an outflank, but it certainly helps the roll.

perhaps not in this game, but you needed one in the original game, as i only have the downloaded version, then i have not really read much of the different rules that much, so surprised to see you could do it without a leader still you dont outflank with a 1 leader or no leader on a mountain, its 0 out of 1-6 chance to work second round and only 1-2 on third round. I might do it normally on clear sector, for the 1 and 3 chance, but never in mountains with that kind of leader

In this version you don't need a leader to outflank. It doesn't help to have a Strategic rating of 1 or 2 though....unless you get lucky. Although all good wargamers know that the dice are against you as well.

I am pretty sure you can outflank without a leader in the boardgame as well.  I would never recommend it, but I am pretty sure I have seen it tried.

i agree on that, but in the normal game, i have as prussia and hohe used the 1 chance to outflank the french as i expected he would Echelon me and he did, evn if my troops did not flank, its best i could do, but i managed to get in second round, so nice defeat for france

No, you can't in the boardgame. You need a leader...although having the option to do so without a leader is fine...

7.5.2.1 STEP ONE-SELECTION OF CHITS: Both players select an Operational Possibilities chit. There are different chits for the attacker (gray) and the defender (white). An outflank chit may be chosen only if a force consists of at least two non-artillery corps and has a leader.

been years since last i played EIA, but i know that outflank required a leader, just surprised to see you dont in this game, but its ok, i dont like the idea that you needed a leader for it anyway, but i think game should still not do it, if it gets a penalty from terrain

I see no reason why you should need a leader counter to outflank. It is logical that someone is in command, its just that its someone unknown to us and not to experienced.

I have seen outflanks done in the old game as a desperation move as well. If you have a leader with 2 rating your opponent will NEVER expect it. If you get lucky you can put a whooping on them.

I once did it ina FtF Game.

Brunswick and 6 Prussian Corps pulled an outflank against Napoleon, and I rolled really well. The French player was miffed, to put it nicely.
