Strat Movement rules

Post by boogada »

Ok I am not quite aware how the success / failure of rail movement is calculated. What hexes are in danger of a failing transport? I thought only those next to enemy hexes, but in Italy I moved my troops 2 hexes away from the CP, the CP took the frontline at this turn and my troops did not show up behind. What are the factors here?

Strat movement happens after combat I think - so if your troops are attacked by the enemy then they don't strat move.

Point is Boogada and I am currently engaged in hot fighting in Italy and are both wondering about our failing strategic movement.

I have the suspicion that an old strategic movement but has come forward again Perhaps in a new disguise.

British troops using strategic movement to come from France to Italy should cost both French as well as Italian rail allowance. That is no longer the case as it is apparently the owner of the railing unit who pays the cost. But is it so or does it only appear that way ?

An older bug allowed you to try such a move in the order phase if only the owner of the unit still had rail movement for it and when the time came to actually carrying it out it would be cancelled because there were no rail movement to do it (i.e. either French or Italian).

AFAIK it's the country that yuo start in that determines who pays hte cost - if you are moving British units from Francce then France will pay hte cost.

If you are in conquered territory that isn't officially part of either country then the country of the unit pays hte cost.

It has always been only 1 country that pays the cost - never 2.

I've been using that basis for a while & it is what works.

What happened? Italy entered the war and I knew that Hjaco would start an attack from Austria, trying to get a fast Blitzkrieg victory. I put some British troops to the French/Italian border, ready to help the Italians. So when war were declared, I moved the Italian troops out of Florence (to avoid stacking issues) and strat moved the Brits in. That failed. A HQ unit got moved into the town though.

I know I had rail points left, because this was the first move I did. I had both French and British rail points.

A turn later I tried to stratmove them again to some other place, and it failed again.

If I cannot help the Italians they will get kicked out of the game within 1-2 turns in every game. They are no help, they are a burden now.

Maybe I forgot about a rule of strat move and face the consequences now, maybe its a bug. That's why I ask for the rules in general.

I wonder if there's a problem in that Italy doesn't have much (or any?) strat movment in its 1st turn in the same way hte other powers also lack it on T1?

although that shouldn't matter according to the rules as I understand them since if you are coming from France then you use French strat movement - perhaps it's an exception if the target has 0?
