ECM - "Hit %"

Post by Owl »

When looking at an ECM pod, jammer, etc often there is a hit percentage listed and a range. How should this be interpreted? If an enemy radar range is listed as 100 miles - is it now 80 miles ish (20% less range) in game terms?
I don't know how the innards work, but it could also mean that a radar having a 90% chance of getting a return on a target now gets a 70% - again sort of reducing the effective range of the target radar.
Finally - do the jammers work across all radar types - in other words if I have a Prowler jamming away, will it impact the enemy long range search, fire control and interceptor radars all at once?

Ok, it wasn't finally! [;)] One more. Will more than one jammer in a squadron help it more - do they stack?

The hit % of the ECM pod should be ignored, it does not factor into area/escort jamming.

The range is best thought of as a measure of jamming power rather than a strict range.

The jammers do work across all radar types (in one way or another) since there is only one radar type in HCE.  There is area/escort jamming and what I'll call point defense jamming (the point defense being solely a reduction in PH of attacking weapons)

Jamming adheres to radar line of sight, putting a jammer at VLow isn't going to do you much good.

More than one jammer helps, more than two jammers in close proximity does not (the second jammer essentially helps cover the first jammer but doesn't increase the jamming power in total).

The most jammers will reduce an enemy radar's range is 87%.

Hmmm.  So that's what to try nexz (see other post about cracking the nut - defended air base).  Get perhaps 2 jammers up and working while I send in the SEAD (which may have jammers on them too).  If I can reduce the range at which they start downing my planes to lower than the range of my anti-radiation missiles [:D]
