Just come over from UV :)

Post by FlashPan »

Hi All,
Just bought WitP after many enjoyable battles in UV. I have already run through the tutorial and I like the additional options provided by the WitP game system. To ease myself in I thought I'd kick off the Coral Sea scenario (number 2 - I think) as I'm familiar with this one from UV. Wow, what a big difference!

In UV I had lots of ships and could easily transfer troops, equipment and aircraft to PM and Gili Gili. In WitP there are two predefined task forces, but no other ships. To make my life more difficult, in UV I could get away with transfering troops from Austrailia's Townsville to PM using Dakota's and Catalinas. In WitP, the Dakotas don't seem to have the range and the Cats no longer have the transfer troops option available.

All in all the two scenarios from both games are very different!

My strategic problem is how to build up my ground forces in PM? Is there a transport technique that I'm missing? Or will I have to rely on my Carrier TF to prevent any enemy incursions?

Thanks
RobP

I don't think you have to worry about the AI invading PM in that scenario. They'll go after Lae, Gilli Gilli, & Guadalcanal from what I recall. The scenario is too short for the Japanese AI to do this.

You might have to pay political points to get the units in Australia to transfer off the continent. Transfer them to the southwest pacific command and then they should be available for C-47/PBY transport.

A transport a/c unit can transfer troops and supplies up to half of the transfer distance, regardless of the normal/extended range. The number of load points transported at max range will be reduced, however.

I'm glad to hear you are enjoying WitP, it's the best modern pacific wargame on the market.[:)]
Good luck with your Coral Sea battle, give the grand campaign a shot, it's a beast but you will be fine since you already have mastered UV.
It doesn't make any sense, Admiral. Were we better than the Japanese or just luckier?

In WitP, the Dakotas don't seem to have the range and the Cats no longer have the transfer troops option available.
Catalinas can transport troops in WitP, too! However, if they're at a base with no unrestricted troops, the button will be greyed out.

Welcome to the WitP forum, BTW. [:)] If you have questions (you will! [;)]), take a look at this thread:

If you can't find an answer there, don't hesitate to ask.
