AI battle tactic selection

Post by Adraeth »

I noticed in the aar movie that turkish Ai chooses an "escalated counter attack" against the english "echelon", my question is:

How the Ai processes its choices to select the battle tactic? Is it full random or is it partial random with Country particular selection (for istance Austria prefers Cordon) ?

Thanks in advance

Nice question!~

Its such a big thing picking a chit.

I find I have to look into my opponent's soul and feel the darkness.

Wouldn't it be grand if decisions that we had to make outside our turn could get texted to our mobiles so we could reply sooner!

Oh yes, that was a good question. Please, please, please not fully random. The very least input in the decision should be the leaders capabilities and the country-"specialities" (Russia might be more likely to choose defend, Turkey needs fast results etc).

The boardgame gives bonuses to morale if a certain tactic is choosed by a certain Country:

Examples:

Austria Cordon

Prussia Echelon

Turkey Assault

and so on......

knowing that this rule will be in the game, i was curios regarding the AI ^ ^

Candidly the most successful chit picker I ever played against chose his randomly every time (OK he took withdrawl out of the mix if he wanted to fight but other than that). It's very tempting to try to couteract the known strengths of your opponent and randomness causes much chaos for those types of people.

Adraeth:

The AI is aware of bonus situations and there is some weight put into this selection process.

There are modifiers listed in 14.9.1, but I'm not seeing anything in the manual about bonus tactics by country. Maybe I'm missing something. Could this be clarified?

Hey here is the perfect way to make the AI more difficult, to give the AI a chance (increasing with difficulty level) to pick the chit "knowing" the chit that the human player picked [:D]

I played with a guy who picked randomly as well, and it used to piss one guy in our group off so badly.  It was funny, because this guy would take forever to make his pick, then the other guy would choose at random, and when he won, all hell broke loose.

I love this game.[:D]

Well, considering how many fights I lost last night...against Jon and the insurrection corps no less...I would say the computer picks pretty good.

random picking means nothing, in an equal fight, its actually to your advantage, because if he put some thought into it, he might be able to have a better chance of picking the right one against you :) its even more to your advantage, if you are the bigger force, not sure if its good or bad, if you are the small force, but overall, you do have an advantage, thats why not all take all chits into random, they pick those they think will matter and pick randomly from those.

I can't imagine how random picking works to one's advantage.  By looking at the OPFOR corps and leader you can deduce several pieces of information about what tactics he won't pick.  If the leader has a low STR rating, you can almost rule out Outflanks or Withdraws.

If your army is smaller, but has a larger CAV element, you probably have better morale, but can't last toe to toe for very long.  Choose tactics likely to result in high morale damage so your enemy breaks and your cav can deal some lasting damage.

If you have a large infantry force, but almost no cav, go for tactics that will drag out the battle and let you deliver three full rounds of punishing blows.

There's also terrain to consider and its affect on combat and pursuit: forest, swamp, mountains.

In short, there's almost always information you can glean prior to a battle that will help shape your tactical choices.  Ignore them at your army's peril.  [8D]

OK, from the discussion here and the other thread about chit selection for dummies, modifiers B, C and G provide some bonuses only for Turkey, Austria and Russia, respectively. I still don't see anything for Prussia Echelon bonus or anyone else. I assume the 14.9.1 notes and modifiers are complete and that's all there is.
