Error during combat

While the computer was setting up for a battle, right after picking chits (I chose withdraw as defender), I got a long series of dialog boxes. All of them said the same thing:

Could not RKEY in TB_GET_NATION_COMBAT_MOD

The title of the dialog box was "Eianw", and the only buttons were "OK" and the X in the corner. I didn't count how many times I had to hit OK, but I think it was about 10. Each time, a little bit more of the screen painted itself. It had been mostly whited out at first. Eventually, I got back to the combat and was able to finish it successfully (game-wise, not militarily).

The battle was Prussia attacking without a leader, with 1 I and 9 M. I defended with 2 M, and chose Withdraw. I think the computer chose Assault.

Care to enlighten the programmer in me as to what it was? It seemed like a call to a display module that was getting barfed on or something.
