What I think

What I think

This game is a masterpiece of combined arms, lines of supply, and interdiction.
I know now how art lovers feel as they gaze upon Mona Lisa.
It has brought tears of joy to my eye's.

While few men,legislators or otherwise,
have felt downthe years they could command ships of the line or marshall air armies without specialized training, almost
any fool has felt in his heart that he could command a regiment.

I will say that my first impression of Advanced Tactics, was that the production model is the most ingenious I have seen in any build 'em up game ever.

It actually imparts an almost `real time' fluid feel to turn based strategy gaming. Something I've always wished could be done, but didn't know if it was even possible.

Truly, a landmark of turn based game design.

Congrats on the perfect and near perfect review scores, definitely well deserved.

First off I love the game - I think it's the best turn based game that I've ever seen. I'm really eager to see more scenarios designed. I personally love the larger scenarios (WW1, Russia 41, WW2, etc) and can't wait to see more.

But - I think the production needs to include some sort of delay mechanism. For example I think if a CV is built it should take several turns before it arrives on map.

This is just being picky though - the game is fantastic and has so much more potential as scenarios are designed.

I'm largely in agreement with what's being said here, this is an excellent game that forces the player to pay attention to supply like nothing else.

I wonder abou the delay thing tho. Sometimes I've wanted a town to produce something, and even at 100% it still doesn't even reach one plane for example. It seems to me, and as  newbie I could easily be wrong, that it takes a few turns for that town to make that plane.

Is that right? If so, there might be some way to tweak that in the editor to build in some delays at least.

Yes, actually I think you can tweak this in the editor. I haven't done it yet, but I don't see why you couldn't.

With respect to the lack of time delay for some production items, I just rationalize it on the basis that my (imaginary) team of ministers, generals and scientists have all been putting their respective ducks in a row for months but that I made the final decision about where to allocate the critical resources.  Think jet German jet fighters denied fuel in 1945 (they could have flown, maybe) or that German CV (Graf something?) waiting to be completed but denied the labour etc.

This game has so much potential.  It's great as is, but imagine where it could go in 1-2 years!

I agree for the most part, still think TOAW3 is better for some operation types. Both
have a natural spot on my HD :).

I wonder if it would be possible to make a Pax Britannica style game with AT?
