a few little bugs

Post by ndrose »

Just a few things I've noticed in the course of a very enjoyable campaign as Austria:

1) Usually pursuit works fine, but occasionally it doesn't seem to cause the casualties it should. This may be the same problem as was noticed in another thread, of militia not being taken when there's nothing else.

2) France attacks Austrian corps with lone artillery corps (AI silliness there, but that's another issue.) After small casualties on both sides, artillery corps breaks. There's not enough Austrian cavalry to cause any pursuit damage. Nevertheless, the artillery corps is eliminated. Could be the game thinks 0 cav = 0 inf = 0 mil = infinity artillery?

3) Austria gets corps on loan from Britain. Corps is sitting in Swedish free state (controlled by Britain), and refuses to go anywhere. (Only its little area is outlined as possible destination.) I tried the same thing with a corps in Norway (conq by Britain), and it was willing to let that move around in Norway, but not enter Sweden.

4) In one game, the little map in the bottom right corner turned its colors off (as if all the check marks were off). I tried clicking them off and on to no avail. I tried saving and quitting and coming back also to no avail. Save files of other games still show the map properly.

5) Not really a bug, but just about the AI. I think others have posted similar things. While it seems pretty good at chit picking, and makes some clever maneuvers, it's not so good at "getting there the first with the most". The lone artillery corps above is one example. In the same war, Napoleon began far ahead of the main stack, with just the guard corps. I wiped out the corps and captured him. Then they scattered their main stack, which had looked quite formidable. By the end of the war, I also had Davout, Bernadotte, Soult, and Massena.

Regarding #2 and #5. Yes The AI seems to have this penchant for making kamikaze runs with a single corps, and with or without a leader, for capitals and armies. I also find my prisoners box is filled with leaders even if their army is still in the field. [8|]

I too have noticed that ateh AI seems to form stacks, BIG stacks, to a out of proportion reaction to some trivilal perceived threat but neither as an offensive weapon nor to defeat an invasions. Once that "threat" is gone it will scatter its forces willi-nilly to be gobbled up.

I seem to recall a rule about a lone artillery corp breaking automatically which would destroy it. I never leave my art alone so not real sure. Yep, here it is: 12.3.5.6: If at any time during a combat round a side (or the pinning force of a side) consists of only artillery factors, that side is automatically considered to break.
