Having seem the way you work I am sure that the Allied guns are rated using the same criteria so balance must be inherent (obviously time for a leap of faith - trust the scientist in Cid!). Can I look forward to any Allied warships I manage to keep afloat taking a course of your AAA steroids? Could you tot up the effect ratings on a couple of upgraded Allied ships from later in the scenario, please? Any casual reader would then be reassured and not put off by the day one imbalances I have quoted. I believe the formula as quoted by VSWG was sum of effect divided by two? My opp and I are going to start an EOS game. As previously stated I love JFB what if games, have a great opponent waiting and cannot resist this wonderful mod.

ps With DP guns (now including main battery) is there any way to model the availabilty of different ammunition? If this is not possible then I would suggest that inclusion of main battery heavy calibre AAA fire is something that will cause an inherent imbalance. The special AA shells required would have taken the place of AP and HE shells.

I wouldn't worry too much about the AA effect of the main guns. This, however, is a serious issue:

This could mean that even a single Catalina flying naval search over a BB can trigger shots being fired from the main battery. The ship might run out of main gun ammo before surface combat takes place. Has this been tested?

No - that is what we are up to now - with long term human games. I did, however, get a very long human game report - Level 5 of course - yesterday. Seems some have been playing for a while. They didn't notice anythign like this enough to mention.

I did NOT initially put in the very heavy AA as I felt it would be controversial. But Forum members pointed out that it was on both sides. Looks like it is actually not very effective. If you want to be safe - stay above the altitude the main guns can shoot to. Only Yamato can reach 12,000 feet - so that is a safe altitude for all else - and 13,000 is safe in any case. But I bet you never notice this as an issue. Accuracy of 19 is dismal for an AA gun.
