List of all armies that exsisted in CW... Need info

Can someone provide a list of all Army groups that exsisted during The ACW for both sides? I know of the AOP and ANV but what about the rest? I am interested in Army groups that may have been just on "paper". Thanks.

I do not know if this is all of them, but those I can think of:
 
USA:
Army of the Potomac
Army of the James
Army of Virginia
Army of the Cumberland
Army of the Ohio
Army of the Tennessee
Army of the Gulf
Army of the Mississippi
 
 
CSA:
Army of the Potomac
Army of the Shenendoah
Army of Northern Viriginia
Army of the Penninsula

Alot of these "armies" only existed for a few months and were either different names for the same army (e.g. CSA Army of the Potomac and Army of Northern Virginia) or were temporary detatchments from larger armies or "army groups" (e.g. the "Army of the Valley" was in fact the II Corps of the Army of Northern Virginia detached to operated independently in the Shenendoah Valley).

Great info and thanks! Now I just need to find out when these armies operated and what areas they operated in! I just wanted something to name the new armies I create rather than just a number.

Thanks for all the detailed info. Good reading for me. I can guess where these Armies operated based on their names, but if anyone can provide interesting info on operating areas outside of the obvious areas they would have operated that would be great. Hope you like the game as much as I do.

I'll soon post a great URL on this, as soon as Mr. Z reminds me what it is. In the meantime, I'll warn that Wikipedia is somewhat deficient in this area, and I'll advise that Heidler's encyclopedia is an excellent source because it has info on every department, including dates of creation/termination and when the different commanders took charge. Heidler's my number one source when editing bios and needing to clear up some matter about the official name of force that a general was serving in.

Those are good lists providing guidelines for names. Currently I'm doing my own army names, but following the guidelines established by the Union, namely armies are named after major rivers in their areas of operation. Currently I have an Army of the Potomac, Mississippi and Ohio, but I also created ones for the Atlantic (marshalling naval invasion groups in Maryland and providing a spot for "Spoons" Butler to earn a living) and the Missouri (covering the area south of that river along with Kansas and the Indian Territories).
