SOWCHOS 79, a Scenario by M4 Jess

Post by M4Jess »

_______SOWCHOS 79*
*
Southern Russia, December 8, 1942*
*
Designed by M4 Jess*
*
Based on ASL scenario 16*
*
Following the encirclement of Sixth Army at Stalingrad, the Germans launched a relief effort from
their bridgehead at Nizhna Chirskaya, 25 miles from the nearest troops of Sixth Army at Marinowka. The Chir River was to provide the left flank for the operation, and consequently
had to be held. Attempting to hold the German relief effort, the Russian Fifth Tank Army attacked across the Chir and forced its way past the left flank of the defending 336th Infantry Division, and on to Sowchos 79, a collective farm deep in the German rear. General Balck's 11th Ghost Panzer Division, just arriving in the area from Rostov to take part in the relief of Stalingrad, was detoured to attack Sowchos 79 and restore the situation.*
*
Aftermath: Balck's 15th Panzer Regiment with 25 AFV's, followed by the 11th Panzer Grenadier Regiment, drove from the hights west and north of Sowchos into the rear of the Russians positions, destorying a motorized infantry column in the process. Turning south, the panzers surprised the Russian armor, which was at that instant moving to attack the 336th Infanrty from the rear. Simultaneously, Balck's 110th Grenadier's attacked the farm from the southwest, while the divisional artillery of the 336th hammered the northeastern flank. By the end of the day, 53 Russian tanks were destoryed, Sowchos 79 was in German hands, and the Russian First Armored Corps was in retreat; but the Ghost Division had been lost to the planned rekief of Stalingrad.*

Hi - just played thru...those little SP-AT guns (mounted on Komsomolets tractors?) really took the wind out of my blitz. I have some learning to do in avoiding AT guns, especially with no FO to speed up my smoke! - Therefore I must shamefully admit to a draw :( . Great Scenario though... I've tried to adapt several old ASL scenarios myself, but my skills are very basic. I'm curious to hear how others did and what techniques they used (may help my gameplay :D )

There are so many way to improve on the ASL scenarios with the design tools in the game. For example. I took the Returning a Loan ASL scenario and changed it to reflect the entire rescue mission the scenario was depicting by adding the entry of 320 Division and trucks to KG Peiper to bring the 320th troops out in and using exit hexes for the player to reach to simulate a successful escape, much like the historical event Compare the 2 scenarios, Returning A Loan, a faithful recreation of the ASL scenario and The First KG Peiper, my adaptation of it to see what I mean. Both are included in the game.

Hello! I'll check those scenarios out! I've been fiddling with the old scenarios "Valhalla bound" and "Big Cat's den". I have a new respect for anyone who has posted a scenario...especially an original one. It's alot of work! The editor is very flexible, but takes some getting used to. I think each of the previous two scen. adaptations took me the better part of a day, and they are still pretty primitive...-you guys who crank out the good ones rock!!!:D :D
