City size question

Post by Rik81 »

I've noticed references to Villages, Towns, Cities and Capitals. Yet, I have no idea how these are either made, or used, or if they are functionally different in anyway. I have only been playing "random scenarios" so maybe this is some applying only into set scenarios? Any enlightenment would be appreciated.

Rik,

the production varies between them as well as some other factors.

Production
villages - 500
towns - 2000
city - 5000
capitol city 10000

These are the defaults I think.

Ah, so for example, whereas 100% applied to building a Dive Bomber in a Village might only yield one DB, the same % applied in a City might crank out 4 or 5 in a turn.

Perhaps in Random scenarios, we only get "one size"? or maybe I've just not noticed.

You usually get towns/cities in various sizes in a random game. Raising the "city size" slider in setup will emphazise larger cities but you could still get a few smaller. I usually use the default value (2 I think). Also I think the sizes are 500, 1000, 2000, 4000 and 8000.

yep, though it might be that village only builds .2 divebombers. you have to be sure and look when you start building. But yes, thats the idea. But from yoggi's msg, it looks like you'll want to check what the different sizes are.

I know you can also edit this value, so it might vary in user created scenarios.

I looked in editor for size instead of random game. I'd check the values on the map you're using just to be sure. Also, the structural points vary as well (i.e. how much damage they can sustain).

I never use villages to build things like planes or tanks. Here i use the bigger cities for.
Villages and towns i let mostly produce supply or PP´s.
If you have only the very small cities i would let the villages in the backland produce
things that need more than one turn. So the risk of loosing the production because the enemy
captured the city is smaller.
