Captured transport ships

Post by Jimmer »

Twice now, I've gotten a surrender out of GB that included this anomaly:

Sometime during the war, the French managed to, I thought, kill the British transport fleet, because GB left it at sea at the wrong time.

Well, after GB surrenders, France gets these 5 ships in one of his/her ports. That's not so bad, because I should be able to ignore them and carry on. BUT, it turns out that these are at least partially French, because every reinforcement phase, I get prompted with whether or not I want to go back and put these ships into a counter. However, I can't do that; it simply won't let me add them. Has a zero in the bottom box when I try to transport. This, while at the same time showing "5i" in the "factors available" area.

I guess I can work around it by ignoring the British transport fleet. But, it would be good if these ships were either destroyed, or allowed to join my trn fleet.

I have had this happen as well.  The ships were in Amsterdam for me and I was never able to get my Fr transport fleet up there to try and add them.  I just ignored them as well.

You have to move your transport fleet counter up to the port that they are located at and then add them to the transport fleet.

I tried that, Murat. It didn't work either time.

By the way, the two times it happened, they were in different ports (Lisbon the first time, and Amsterdam the second). I think this is because the non-battle occurred outside of those ports, in both cases.

Next time I have it happen, I'm going to ignore the transport ships and see what happens.

That would be a new one for sure. I just utilized some captured transports in a game that I'm doing. Email that to me if you see it again...

Thank you

I'm pretty sure I can reproduce it. I just have to kill off GB, but wait until after I kill their transport to do it. I'll try to save the game right before the battle, right after the battle, and then later, after they surrender (I'll be nice and offer a conditional, just to save time :)).
