Battles in Normandy SSG's

Post by sullafelix »

I know that it has it's own section but it doesn't have that many posts at all. This is my question. Thanks

What I meant to ask is can you give orders to your divisions etc. to attack here defend there. Old SSG games always had a command option like the HPS campaigns series. I bought Battlefront and was not to happy to find that they had done away with command options. I also asked in an email and I know they never plan to use it again. I play only solitaire so it helps to even things up by having different levels of command to order about.

So is it possible to order the 21st Panzer to attack Caen or do I have to move it and then setup all the different parts to attack like in a boardgame? Thanks.

Sulla,

I haven't played BiN in a while, but I think you have to move each regiment and support unit into place and attack manually. But the operations are fairly quick and easy to carry out. The supporting air and arty factors can be added in seconds and combat takes only a couple of clicks to proceed. I prefer HPS's "Normandy" but that's apples and oranges. HPS's game is at the company level. The AI in BiN is pretty competent.

I would like to know how these compare to the Normandy scenarios in TOAW3.

Was there ever a scenario based on Longest Day(mammoth boardgame)?

I'll admit it I'm a gamer who wants to order AI's around. With HPS games  I use command control also with all of the Talonsoft. I would be in my glory if SSG would upgrade their Great Battles series. The only thing with the Talonsoft/Matrix ones are I can see that each general has different ratings but I have never found out if they made the AI of each general different to match the ratings.

the two games are VERY different in how they present hex based gaming.. one using much more, ssg, abstraction than the toew model, not bad just differrent.. the bin model is one of my personal favorites for pbem
