Problem Okami is that Johnston is very far from any base...i'll send in some more zeros following up your suggestion, but i doubt they will make it...for the moment some AA guns arrived and so a CD unit...however the losses are still high...

Just a rules thing but somewhere there is a posting that only six ASW unit engage a target so you may wish to make your units 6 ships strong also spend the PP to get agressive ASW commanders, this is very important, you will find that your ASW results will improve.

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 01/12/42

Today we finally manage to sink an enemy sub...
Fierce fightings in China show again the supremacy of the AVG against the Nates...i'm losing a lot of good pilots there...but i'd like to keep an historical pace so i'll try not to put aside the nates for the moment and not to replace them too soon with the oscars...
However the Chinese theatre is very fluid...he's moving his troops everywhere, but i'm confident i'll be able to isolate some of his major units and advance further...
At Johston Island the dogfight keeps on going on. Today we saw a significant number of enemy bombers going back after the first contact with my zeros...their morale should be quite low...they will probably have to stay down for few days. The base is now fully repaired and that gives me a bit of air to breath...

In DEI we managed to conquer Koepang...now Java should be almost isolated, but i do not want to do anything before Manila and Singapore are taken...

After looking at your map I would give you this little bit of advice. RESOURCES!!!!!!! Your economy will crash in the next three months if you do not grab Ambionia, Kendari, Palembang, Tarakan and Bailkpapan. Just a little advice. Oh and when you take them do it by mass assault to lessen damage to resources.

Ambonia and Kendari are already in my hands. Palembang, Java and southern Borneo are still allied...i hope to be able to launch an offensive in the next month against these places but i simply donot have enough troops, planes and fuel to attack those strongholds right now.

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 01/17/42

A small update.
Things are slowing down... the japs have conquered Makassar in the last week, but didn't go any further. The fuel situation for my fleet is so bad that we cannot even move towards the Southern Borneo[:(]..his subs keep on sinking my ships with impunity...seems that nothing can stop them...
The second wave against Manila failed miserably...despite he has splitted his forces between Manila and Bataan, seems that i overstimated the strenght of my two armies involved and went overconfident...[:o]...we need to rush now, cause i've already lost too much time and cannot efford to remain stuck like that...

I have taken Manila on serval occasions with 2or3 Divisions, as the ground combat is a crap shoot it is all about timing not neccessarily forces. Bombard it alittle more and try try again.

From the version 1.7 whats new file:

4) Anti-submarine attack routines have been rewritten. Now, seldom will more than 4 ASW vessels normally attack a submarine during a single phase (although many may search). Number of attacking ships depends on task force type, ships types and lots of skill rolls. Instead of each ship making one or two attacks, they may now sometimes continue to attack until out of ASW ammunition. Number of attacks made depend on task force type, ships types and lots of skill rolls. Hits are now deadly much less often, usually doing a point or two of system damage and or occasionally a point or so of flood damage.

I have found that 1xDD, 2xAPD, and 3xPCs for Japan work well as ASW hunter-killer groups. If you need more, go to 1xAPD and 3xPC. You want the DD for better leader stats and at least one crew set with good numbers to help detect the sub.
