Can you have unique units for sides?

Post by marcusm »

Note. Still haven't reviewed all FAQ.s.

I wonder since it would be nice to have unique units for each side. UK should be the only ones with Red Coats etc. Russian with Cossacks and so on.

Can you do something like this?

Just read about regime specific units. Guess this answers my question.

The system I use to create regime specific units is to have a research item called "Republican units" and othe "Nationalist units". "Republican units costs 1 for Republican people and 9998 for Nationalist people, and it´s a pre requisite for all Republican units. The opposite happens for Nationalist units research. Question id: if Republican capture a nationalist city with nationalist people, will they have access to nationalist units at a smaller cost? My guess is that they won´t, as "people" in the research data, seeme to be the people corresponding to a given regime. If I´m wrong I still can fix the trouble by giving these specfics techs a 9998 cost and give them at game start for the side I want to have it.

Like I said in the "Regime-specific units" thread, I use a -1pp cost to make a research unavailable. 9999 actually is a real number that gets divided when the game calculates the final research cost and I don't like that.

You can easily set which regimes can build or not which SFTypes, I suppose it's the simplest method !

It's not that simple. If you set only your regime to be able to build xxx tank, then only cities populated with your people will be able to build it. If you conquer a city with some other people (say Universals, like in random maps), you won't be able to build your specific units.

Well, that sort of fits in. Cossacks, Red Coats(less so) were quite specific to certain places.
Couldn't just raise those anywhere ;). Nor US Marines.
