This new Commander's Edition of Harpoon Classic includes land units, neutral and unknown sides, an improved radar and area ECM model and a host of other improvements. Rounding that out are over 200 scenarios and the WestPac Battleset. Try out this great new version of the classic Harpoon!

EC2000 Battlesets

Post by Vincenzo_Beretta »

I understand that the old EC2000 battlesets have been upgraded to the new EC2003 ones. Fine. But if I do launch the "Scenario converter" utility included in HCCE to convert the (many) user scenarios created with the EC2000 series to EC2003 standards it asks for a copy of the original battlesets - and these are not included in the HCCE release.

So, just now I have on my HD a lot of good "legacy" EC2000 scenarios that I'm unable to convert for HCCE, and my original copy of HC97 is lost. Are the EC2000 ".res" files available for download somewhere?

Thanks,

V.

P.S. GREAT job with HCCE - he reconciled me with Harpoon to the point that I'm replaying all the official scenarios in order, starting with the vintage "1989" GIUK's ones. Ah, the memories! [:)]

AGSI does not have the permission to distribute the EC2000 files thanks to the platform photos in them.  Once upon a time I made the scenario converter available on a website (you upload the EC2000 scenario, it sends you back EC2003 version) and could dig that up.  You could also send in those EC2000 scenarios to someone you know has HC97 and have them convert the scenarios for you.  I'll work a 3rd avenue too but I expect nothing from it, the ability to distribute the EC2000 battlesets without platform photos.

may I ask what the big deal about the photo's is? I mean are they wanting money? This seems strange.

The photos come from a variety of sources so it isn't just asking Stock Photos permission (and paying them) to redistribute them again, it is going to a number of organizations and hammering out acceptable agreements.  It just isn't something AGSI had the time and resources to accomplish.  Any more details would have to come from DonG since I was not part of the exploration.

Here's a novel idea even if it is time extensive! Recreate the scenario with the scenario editor in the EC2003 battle set. I have done this with some of the more interesting scenarios such as demise of the 7th Fleet. It takes time but is loads of fun when you're done!

Absolutely. New user created scenarios are always welcome and encouraged. Post your creations here at Matrix, at HarpGamer and other sites like ScenShare. You'll get some helpful feedback and hopefully encourage others to try their hand at scenario design.
