9-player Diplomacy - Scandinavia
Those perfidious Soviets bombarded have treacherously invaded Finland and bombarded Helsinki without even requesting negotiations to discuss our difficulties!
Fortunately the brave Scandinavian air forces and fleets were on hand to repel the attack and sink the Baltic fleet, which we are sure was being misld by Trotskyite counter-revolutionary reactionaries........
A stern diplomatic note has been sent to Moscow with an invitation to restore peaceful relations and purge the incorrect elements from their military.
The Scandinavian government has gone into emergency sessions to plan the economy in case war erupts in Europe ......as seems likely with all the sabre rattling going on.
Scandinavia is a bit of a nightmare - Finland and the Baltic states are separated from the Norwegian/Swedish mainland by the Baltic making life a little difficult, and some production centres are limited to what they can produce...which I guess at least makes deciding their output easier, but there are some things I'd rather not bother with at the moment that I actually must produce!! :/
C'est la guerre and all that.....

RE: 9-player Diplomacy - Scandinavia
Can you believe these Russians - while negotiating for peace their air force attacks Scandinavian shipping in our territoriality waters!
The brave vikings do their best to protect innocent civilians, but the cowardly Russians concentrate on the almost defenceless freighters, sinking many.
The cost is great tho - accurate anti-aircraft fire accounts for almost half the attackers, which is a serious blow to the Russian armed forces.
Scandinavia accepts the Russian peace terms despite this outrage, but can the Russians really be trusted??

I've ben laying low until now hoping that the Russians wouldn't realise the full implications of the naval combats in T1 - I sank their fleet, but they sank both my cargo ships, thus isolating the Baltic States and Finland from the Scadinavian mainland.
Fortunately they didn't, and the situation has been fully rectified with T4 now complete.
The Viking Masses are ready to party.......
But we're having to have a break while I head off out of town for summer holidays....sorry guys

The game's been on hold while I've been on holiday - so I've cranked out the turn that's been waiting for me for several days ASAP without doing anything exciting.....normal service should now be resumed

T6 brings Scandinavia into the war.....unhappy with continued Soviet occupation of sovereign Finnish soil the Viking Hordes have retaken what is rightfully theirs.....it's only a little bit, but it's a start.....

T7 - Russian border guards are pushed back to the outskirts of St Petersburg. The Finnish AF raids military positions around the city to ensure the perfidious Russians are no longer able to threaten the peace loving peoples of Scandinavia - aircraft losses are significant but acceptable, while many Russian units are destroyed or disrupted.

T8 - the Russian border guards are fighting fiercly at he outskirts of Leningrad (as we notice it is now called!) - casualties are about even on both sides in total, but the Russians hold on despite heavy sea, air and land bombardments and close assault.

Leningrad falls - the population welcomes the return of Scandinavian rule after 250 years of Russian oppression, and the city is renamed Karlholm [:D]

Russia has surrendered...so the race is on for the spoils......of which I think Moscow is the only city left....it should become part of hte greater Sandinavian Co-Prosperity Axis Cordiale of course, but we think that the Teutons and Southern Slavs may have some nefarious intent upon it too.....[:D]

Once again the peaceful peoples of north Europe are thrust into the flaming crucible of war by the aggression and perfidy of their neighbours....this time it is the Teuton who seeks to dominate the Baltic....but we shall not let him....nnnooooo....we shall be firm in our resolve to preserve our independence.....and our air force has already KO'd half his medium panzers.....and our border guards have seen off his initial probes...but there is plenty more to come Mr German...oh yes......

The brave soldiers of the Baltic federation have caused massive losses to the sneaky and perfidious Germans - not only have all his assaults been defeated with great loss, but counter offensives have liberated vast numbers of oppressed peoples.
The nascent Scandinavian Airborne corps wasn't so lucky tho......getting shot out of the sky by the Luftwaffe during a daring raid on Berlin...
...but they'll be back...never fear!!

Scandinavian troops have poured across the Neiman River, and chased all the German forces from east of the Dneipr.
German forces in Belarus are threatened with encirclement as the Scandinavian Blitzkreig unleashes its awesome power.....

RE: 9-player Diplomacy - Scandinavia
It's been a difficult few turns for the Vikings, as the evil Teutons rampage over the formerly peaceful fields of Lithuania and capture Riga.
However we merely swapped shipyards, with the loss of Riga balanced by the capture of Kiel at the other end of the Baltic.
Most of the troops from Lithuania were successfully evacuated by sea prior to Riga's capture, and reinforcements are on the way to Latvia and Estonia.
To top it all off the Spanish had the cheek to suggest that I should join with Germany to fight against the Balkans without any compensation for German agression, and without any causus belli from the Balkans. Clearly the Iberians have no concept of honor!![8|]

Ha! I see gfrom the map that the untrustworty Teutons have taken a hammering from the Balkan superpower - serves them right the miserable non-blondewarmongers - getting a bit of their own medicine.
However elsewhere they retook Kiel and inflicted heavy casualties - we're digging in across the Danish penninsular there for the time being.
German advance guards towards Leningrad met a sudden end, although troops rushed to Moscow were unavailable for combat this turn, so just a few roadblocks have ben put in place. We do not think there's an actual major threat once reinforcements are in place.
