Major blow

Post by Chairman »

I lost my elite airforce this move to a German Panzer unit that crushed a army well dug in and well supplied (lvl5 entrenchment and 89 in rediness) held for two attacks and when most off the surviving tanks troops and guns shoved up they shatterd
as well as 650 Lagg-3s (Exp. 60-65), 250 IL-2s (Exp. 59-65) and 600(Exp.58-67) when they airfields were overrun. (Didn´t have the rail and forgot to transfer in troops into the HQ, :) )

But is it good to replace Stalin with a general with rating 4 ?
:D

I hope that you cut off that pesky Panzer group.
I don't think you can replace Stalin, but I think that the game may randomly replace him for you (but probably not...). I personally prefer to put my good leaders in charge of important fronts, therefore I never have anyone better than a 4 rating leader available to replace Stalin with.

Right, you can't remove him but the game might. Something like "Stalin turns over command to deal with affairs of the state" or something like that.

Chairman, what year and weather did this attack happen? How strong was that Panzer Korps? 100cv, 150cv, 200cv? Do you know?

Year 41 week end of July begining of August.
Place marsh, lvl 5 (been there sins the invasion)
Had about 600 tanks, about 700 infantery squads, about 400 guns and rediness 89, one artillery were 98.

Had to send special supply because I didn´t have any troops in the HQ 2 hexes behind with one light army between that.

Support were 650 Lagg-3s (Exp. 60-65), 250 IL-2s (Exp. 59-65) and 600(Exp.58-67)

Enemy forces a Panzer Korps with 1or 2 Panzer divisons and 2 motorized divisons and 1 artillery battalion.

And about 200 fighters 300-400 bombers

Railhead about 3-4 hexes away from his start position.

By the way we are playing Possums scenario.

I am not sure if there is any wrong with the system but I was so surprised(read angry)

Stalin DID step down from power and I got a lvl 5 leader god or bad??

But I have had several strange shatters in this game, some of them were "only" blocking forces, but some have been big units with up to 800 tanks, behind a river with alot of German planes bombing and a frontal assault from one German panzer korp.

When my airforce went up to support, they were shoot to pieces and rained down like heavy rain, I lost around 300 aircrafts in the air, German losses were 30 maybee 40 planes

'41 no fun for Red Aif Force

Post by Montenegro »

Chairman,

The huge losses are historical and practical within the first 5-6 months of the game. The Luftwaffe is basically shooting down inexperienced fighters and bombers, many of which were completely outclassed (or outdated). I haven't really gotten into a full blown game as Soviet side, but my inclination would be to hold back those TB's in two specific regions---Moscow and Kharkov---and even pull out some of your bombers that survive the first 2 rounds and have them safely in the rear until you launch an effective counterstroke by Oct or Nov. If you survive '41-'42, the Red Air force gets a major boost in the area of fighters and by that time, attrition is taking its toll on Goering's lads. Be aware that you can sneak in a successful airfield attack here and there. Pick your spots.

Regards,

Well I had hoped that the spot was at this place:(

With 60+ experience I hoped to survive and attack his bombers, but no:mad:

I did retreat the surviving airplanes and left mostly obsolete I-16 I-153 to help my units, but to no avail.

But that is the game:rolleyes:

Chairman,

As with the Germans in 1941 blizzards, I believe the Soviets are better off with lower readiness. I am fairly positive they suffer from losses based on full readiness, but then get checked for shatter by dividing the original strength by half or a third and then subtracting losses and what is left, if any, is used to check for shatter. Result is keep them weak so fewer losses result. I believe this helped cause your problem, especially with the continuation attacks.

Let me see if I got this right. Currently losses are not subtracted from the total strength of the corps involved but from the "ready" strength only? I.e., a German corps in blizzard (December 1941) with 75% readiness with 800 total available squads would have available 600 ready squads for calculation of combat. However in blizzard only 25% of this number is used to calculate actual strength, leaving us 150 squads as the final figure available for combat. Thus if 125 squads were lost in an impulse by that corps, the computer does not recalculate available strength for the next combat impulse by subtracting from total squads available (800-125) x 75% x 25% =127 but from previously calcuated available squads (150-125) = 25 available squads. No wonder higher readiness leads to shattered units! Can this counterintuitive situation be fixed and have losses be subtracted from the raw total of available squads and tanks? Or have I missed something?
