Intel on Enemy Corps PBEM

Post by bumpa »

As France I was defending with the Swedish against the English. I won the battle and the Brits retreated. I loaded the PBEM English land phase, then immediately loaded their land attack. This was my first PBEM field battle. What level of Intel should I be able to see?

I can not even see the English corps after the battle. This doesn't seem right. Did I do something wrong?

You should NOT be able to see the contents. This is what keeps the FoW going. I seem to recall it was programmed this way to make up for the way EiA/EiH did FoW differently. You SHOULD have been able to know what the total forces arrayed against you were, your casualties and their casualties. I get this in every battle screen. They have also been talking about making this information more apparent in the info window or whatever medium they use. I am sure Marshall will correct me in errors but I am hoping he just mispoke above.

Yes, but he is talking about a battle.  He had a battle, where he controlled Sweden against GB, however, he never saw the strength of the British forces before, during or after the battle.

Yes, as he was the controlling player for Sweden he should have seen the GB forces, chit choice and losses..

That is what had me thinking he meant that he could not see what the corps held after the battle had been resolved, which of course, he would not be able to. An error in the battle screen is different and a new bug.

And of course he should only be able to see that during the battle and it is a total, not a breakdown of what is in each corp.

The important point here is that this is a PBEM game. Again here was the sequence. I loaded the English land movement then loaded their land combat. I did not inspect the map until I loaded the English land combat. I can see in the log the three rounds of combat and that they lost 2 inf and 1 cav. I see two Corps on the map where they retreated. That's it.

I believe the game should give more information to the defender since the computer resolved the battle and I was not able to see the results during the resolution as I could if I were playing vs the AI. This has nothing to do with the FOW. Since I did not look at the English Corps before loading the land phase, I'm going to guess that I still would not be able to see the contents.

Maybe a bug? Maybe related to a minor controled force?

Not a bug actually. This is the way it is currently set up. Several people have asked for more info in other threads. You should get the basics - how many of each unit, what chits were picked, and the results (losses in units/morale).

I thought Marshall said there was file swapping during combat, so each side could pick chits, commit the guard, call for reinforcements, etc.?  I know it would make the game slightly longer, but it really makes sense as combat is a major part of this game and extremely important.  If I do not have control in my battles, this game is worth nothing to me.

Was this set to quick PBEM combat?

Bumpa, you did nothing wrong.

The program allows for quick battle resolution for battles in which the defender consists of only ONE corps, however, if the defender happens to be a HUMAN defender then they never get to see the force composition and strengths of the attacker (a bug). In any other case they would see this info in the battle screen. What is missing is a line in the defender’s status panel (and only the defender’s status panel) that would show what the force composition and strengths of the attacker was. Thanks, we will fix this.

Hmm in the board game, you are entitled to know the strength of the individual corps, and also what factors are lost: therefore yes, you should be able to know the strength of individual enemy corps after a battle, as well as the total strength of the force.

Strengths at the start of the battle rarely are the same at the end of the battle and corp composition can change pretty dramatically.

Is there a way to retreive battle reports from past battles?

Currently, results of previous actions can be viewed in the Status window (brown box located in the left corner of screen). Double-clicking that box will expand the window and right clicking the status window, while it is minimized (default), will allow you to copy the contents to the clipboard.

We are working on a FoW option that when disabled, will allow players to view more than what they can currently see, but whether or not it will make patch 1.01 is unknown as of this writing.

Hi Pat,

as it was my attack on Stockholm I will tell you what happened.

I landed the British Guard Corps (I Corps) with 1 Guard and 12 Infantry units and the British Cav Corps with 4 units in the rural area of Stockholm fighting there the I Swedish Corps.
I chose as the attacker Assault and the Swedish (you) took Defend.
The British forces break after three rounds and lost 2 Inf and 1 Cav. The Swedish Corps lost 5 Inf. There were no pursuit losses.
My forces retreated to the south of Stockholm - as you can see on the map.

Pans,

It is a copy-paste function. After copying to the clipboard, open up your word processor (word, notepad, etc) and paste the contents.
