A new version of the HCDB is available

This new Commander's Edition of Harpoon Classic includes land units, neutral and unknown sides, an improved radar and area ECM model and a host of other improvements. Rounding that out are over 200 scenarios and the WestPac Battleset. Try out this great new version of the classic Harpoon!

A new version of the HCDB is available

Post by CV32 »

A new version of the HCDB database, the official database for Harpoon Commander's Edition (HCE), is now available. HCDB-071223 is the first "post HCE release" version of the HCDB. The HCE Battleset scenarios will function with this database installed.

The file is available in the Downloads section at the HarpGamer website here.

Please note that this version incorporates certain major changes to the Game Engine (GE) code which will eventually be released by way of a patch, including:
(1) Major improvements to the gunnery model
(2) The expansion of electronic warfare to surface ships and mobile land units (i.e. chaff, flares, point defense jammers).

Until the patch becomes available, these new features will not be fully functional.

In the meantime, Magazines are now fully implemented in the HCDB for surface ships, SAM/AAA batteries, etc. As well, numerous new platforms have been added, including new aircraft, surface ships, SAM systems, submarines and installations. The complete list of new additions is available at HarpGamer.

Enjoy. And Merry Christmas ! [8D]

Its pretty simple, really. Unzip the file to your HCE directory. It will overwrite the 'commondb.res' file, and you're off to the races.

Installed it.

Loaded up a scenario.

Went through the "All Units" database for ships, crashes when I choose "Australia DDG Hobard (Late)", even with a re-download and re-overwrite.

Says:
error in ReadResourceHeader() - probably a corrupt .res/.rsr file

Also Crashes with:
Iran PTM Kaman (early)
Japan FF Abukama
Japan LST Atsumi

Plus more, I did not have the time to go through the entire North Korean, Russia, UK and US ships.

It also happens to at least one Aircraft, but I'm not sure which as I just clicked next next next etc to see if any crashed.

Mack2, that happens because you don't have the accompanying commondb.rsr and Brad is a little excited about the updated HCDB .  I'll chat with him tomorrow and we'll either strip all of the photos out for now or make the new photos available too.  What you can do yourself if you are okay working in Access is use the Platform Editor (PE) to import the new HCDB, then run the qryPicID0 Query.  That tells each and every platform that it has no photo.  Then export and the platform display won't crash (you won't see any photos but the game won't crash).

Sorry, folks, my mistake. (And yes, entirely due to my eagerness to get a new version of the HCDB out before Christmas). Thanks to Tony's sharp eye, the proper file has now been put in place at the Downloads section at HarpGamer. Happy hunting. [:)]

If one simply waits will the new DB be included in the upcoming patch?

Thanks.

Ok... I know we just got the new game but... [:D] is there an ETA on the patch? Also, I think that this topic has been discussed before but is there a way to get the new DB imported while keeping the platforms that I created still functioning? If so, would some one be so kind as to put together a little step by step instructions on how to do that?

Thanks, Steve

I can't see why not.

The patch, "when it gets here", unofficially from my end of things as prime coder the idea is to be done tinkering mid January, target is Jan 15th, what happens after that who can estimate...

True, the other topic (preserving custom DB edits) has been discussed elsewhere and the answers have not changed (and I'm too lazy to quote a thread right now).
