OT, anybody try out the Witcher ?
interesting RPG
guess it is being called an Adult RPG, got to watch the use of "colorful" words and all (a couple times I almost fell off the couch laffing at something the NPCs would say)
very different plot line story, some tuff choices to make during play, which effect the way the game works out
(still alot of the old run back and forth to get this to get that, but...)
starts out a little slow, trying to teach you how combat works, but later on, it pays off, and some of the killer moves are sweet (LOL, like the one where he stuns someone, leaps in the air, lands on his shoulders and drives his sword down though his head, and then does a backflip off)
(killer moves are simi rare and only happen when someone is stunned, most are just step in and stab)
very impressed with it, the story is by a Polish Auther who has some books out

I have the 2Gb (!) demo, but haven't tried it yet. Is this game open ended (a la Oblivion) or linear? If linear, I'll delete it and save HDD space [:)]

One of the best RPGs of this year. I bought the CE version. I heard that the american version was censored somway. The retail distruption doesnt accept games that are for adults.

I'm playing it now. I'm a real Oblivion and Gothic fan and some things about the game I have a problem with ie. combat. Some of the side quests are downright stupid. One thing though I've tried to put it down and move on but something about it keeps me playing it. The adult parts of the game are really over blown in the reviews. If you are an adult and not extremely prissy or religious it's tame compared to what you see and hear in the real world.

I would say it is a loose linear game, loose enough that it does not feel like you are being driven to what the programmer wants (you can do what you want, when you want, but you do have to follow the plot line sooner or later)

Thanks Sarge. I might give it a go then. I just hope I've got the adult version as I'm going to be in for a big disappointment otherwise! [:D]

It makes an interesting comparison between the sad PC prudes of America and the people in Europe who have other things to worry about than somebody saying "f*ck" in a computer game.
Still, it's a very good game. I've put it on hold for a while; got other things to attend to.

The main problem with The Witcher for me is the name of the lead character:
Geralt of Rivia -> Geralt o' Rivia -> Geraldo Rivea -> Geraldo Rivera
[X(]
I have trouble playing the game now without imagining our albino monster hunter with a really inappropriate (not to mention mangy) moustache...[:D]

hey, it could of been Adolph of Hister, you would of really been messed up

RE: OT, anybody try out the Witcher ?
Personally I think they failed in re-creating the Adult theme. It's more like
how pimpled teens laugh at tities in Playboy mags. I mean, bad boob jobs in a so called
mideaval fantasy theme? Yeah right.
I think game designers should watch an HBO show now and then to see how
a proper Adult theme is created. Carnivale is a good start

A Cable Network Channel with extensive in house production.
But if it has to be a fantasy example then I would suggest reading
something from George RR Martin or Steven Erikson (or the more recent Scott Lynch).
Sums it up pretty well.

Yes, I know what HBO is...[8|][:-] My point is that Americans has very little concept of what makes an "adult" anything. You won't see that sort of censorship over here...

HBO is an American channel so it sort of defies your point.
You mean shows like Carnivale, Six Feet Under and Deadwood doesn't have adult themes?
Just trying to say that there's more to being adult than nudity. How about being mature?
