Air Formation Q

Post by all5n »

So i have been using different formations for air wings (aircraft units only) and airfield security (smg, rifle, etc).

What would be the benefits/drawbacks of combining the two? Aircraft sub-formations along with some infantry units...

I am assuming if the air units have to move a lot they cant do that with the infantry sub formations, so the way i have been doing it might make sense in that scenario. For a defensive force or when low on pp at the beginning of a game it might make sense to combine them.

Thoughts?

Personally I wouldn't mix air sub formations with ground for the very reason you stated. You can't move either one. The air units can still perform missions, but if you get in trouble and need to move them you'll have to do a transfer or something and seperate them first.

well, not tottally true, u can move the unit with mixed it the end location is a air capable base withing marching distance of land sf... but no real advantaqge to it...
one thing I could see in a future patch is the ability to allow air units to withdraw from land combat... to other bases

But air units are imho already excellent. As a rule option it would be a good feature, but as default rule i think it might be a bit unbalanced.

seems silly my tweny air units on the ground seeing the tanks rool up cannot at least get some up in the air and excape... as is they all die without fighting if a ground unit attacks

Probably my most disturbing part of the game.
I mentioned some time ago that it needed attention in the patch. Vic stated that
improved garrison treatment of air would be addressed in patch 1.1.
Let us hope. Let us also hope Matrix gets moving on posting the patch which was finished 3-4 days ago.
