Game Improvement suggestions

Post by gwheelock »

This is a list of ideas for (non-bug) game improvements that you might consider...
(in your copious free time of course)

A) Defence combat chit selection "SURRENDER" - no combat; no PP gain/loss
All factors/leaders become POW's & are repatriated at wars end.
("I know my single cav core can't fight Nap & 143 factors & cav are
EXPENSIVE; so...")

B) Change the "AI Bonus". Right at the moment; it seems to give the AI players more
of what they already have (Brits get more $; Prussa more MP). Change this
to give them more of what they DON'T have (P gets more $; GB more MP)
(& boost the $ A LOT so that they aren't building tons of militia ...)

C) Give the AI's some "emotions" - Greed; Fear; Envy :
Greed : "Whats mine is mine; Whats yours is .... negotiable"
Fear : "He's BIGGER & TOUGHER than I am - better be nice ..."
Envy : "He's winning (VP% > mine); I need to do something nasty to him ..."

I would go along with B and C. A seems like a cop-out.

A few games I have played, none come to mind immediately however, seem to have multiple personalities with the AI, varying from "timid" to "strong defensive" to "all out nutcase". It'd be useful to be able to assign those to various AI players in the game.

D) a set of "Show ..." toggles on the main map :
   "Show Control Markers"
   "Show Core Markers"
   "Show Garrisons"
   "Show Leaders"
"Show Depots" (REALLY needed - I had a H*** of a time trying to remember where I had put depots
when I needed to remove & reuse them)

I second D (and B and C, too -- not A; that's what "Withdraw" is for).

D is an example of something that could be REALLY useful as an interface change.
At LAST! The greatest campaign board game of all time is finally available for the PC. Can my old heart stand the strain?

E) Move the point where the AI Bonus is applied from the end of the economic phase
to between VP collection and Manipulation. This improved the benefit of the bonus
to the AI (& may prevent "bankruptcy" - see indicated items

In the original game I think surrender was available as an option for Garrisons

For C I think there must be more fundamental changes made to the AI system, Computer opponents needs to act according to an overall plan not on random numbers only, if there is going to be anything like a real challenge.

In my opinion, it is a requirement for it to be a challenge to play against the computer, that the computor opponents must be something other than totally erratic. This is however a huge task.  What can and should be changed straight away though, is the inactivity of the AI.  The biggest problem with the AI right now is that it basicly does nothing. In a sense its a bit like playing tennis against a road cone or "witches hat" if u like, you can lose but only due to your own technical errors.

A: If you have a small force garrison it in cities and set their orders to surrender.

B: sounds like a good idea.

C: good luck.

In the board game allowing a garrison to surrender was at the option of the attacker.  It was called Honors of War.

Re surrendering the garrison in EiANW:

Standing orders may be given to a garrison, for when there is a breach result during a siege assault, by clicking the garrison name in the top left corner of the Selected Unit Info box.

I feel like a knob asking this but how do you bring up the expanded events list?

I've been trying to do this since I got the game.

no surrender was an option before combat. Honors of war is asked for by the defender and granted by the attacker. Honors of war allowed the garrisons to be moved to the nearest city. Surrender puts them in the loving care of the attacker.
