Stack Overflow error, game crashes.

Post by EIA_Tim »

After playing for a considerable time I did my Econ turn and got the error attached below. The game then crashed.

I tried going back and doing my econ turn different since I had just done my first econ turn for some newly created free states but even without the extra corp counters it still crashed. I'm debating doing a turn without any new troop creation and seeing how that works.

Is there an absolute upper limit to the number of counters on the board? I've maxed out Russia's infantry and have a lot of other corps as well (Sweden, Denmark, Holland, Poland, Vienna, Lombardy).

I also got the stack overflow error while trying to move Ney + VIII Corps from Baden into Wurtemburg. I tried to do this several times and sometimes got a black screen plus CTD, sometimes I stayed in the game but the corps+Ney had been moved back to the counter pool. See picture below.

I've saved the autosave land if you're interested.

... and here's the screenshot where you can see where the corps and Ney ended up.

Another example.

Economic phase finished.  Go to the next phase, see a 'Stack Overflow' dialog box appear for about 1/4 second, followed by CTD.

In the same game, incidentally, one sees in the Soissons area that piling corps results in the corps in the third slot becomes invisible (no icon -- empty space) and unselectable, but it's actually there according to the list of units.  Move corps away from the pile, and the invisible, unselectable corps unhides.

(In passing... the same game also illustrates odd AI behavior --
- Spain declaring war on France, but not moving its army at all (which is busily foraging in Portugal), nor does France respond... and there's no fleet combat, because France has no fleets
- there's a Spanish fleet off the coast of Algeria, providing invasion supply... but there are no Spanish corps anywhere in the vicinity.  This has been the case for multiple game-years.
- Prussia and Austria waged inconclusive war on each other, for years and years, while occasionally sending individual corps to get
smacked by the French army, which is completely located in Paris (other than garrisons) and doesn't detach any corps to smack the mutually bloodied Germaniacs.

Yes, I could have stomped over Prussia and Austria and their minors, and added their corps to the British Ottoman hordes in eastern France, but was trying to maintain character as an honorable GB focused solely on defeating the French/Turkish alliance, and not taking advantage of the Ru-Tu-Au-Pr carnage other than to cripple Turkey, which was already accomplished.)

Confirmed and sent to Marshall - thanks for the files. This should make the 1.01 patch. Btw, no error message appeared on this end – just a quick trip to the desktop.

As I wrote in my posts further up, I got the stack overflow crash in the land phase. I don't know if that makes any difference than from the economic phase stack overflow crash? Did you need the save files?
