aircraft squadrons / pool

Post by RGIJN »

Hi,

have withdrawn a Oscar fighter squadron at a forward airfield. So the planes husbanded, with now about 72 planes. I did it intentionally to pull out the planes in number due to the airfield size (had more a/c than allowed there). Thought the redundant planes would go back to the pool, but they DID NOT[&o]. Even when I pulled them back to Truk, the squadron has 36 planes operational, 28 in repair and 7 in reserve.
How can I get the surplus out of the theatre? [&:]

TIA!

I'm not sure I understand what you did/what you're doing; you disbanded an Oscar squadron at a forward base because of lack of airfield support?

yes. I had more a/c there than I could operate from, I rather wanted other types to be stationed. So I had the intention to disband one squadron to keep the skilled pilots to return later and to drain the planes back into pool. But it doesn´t occured yet. Still 11 in repair and 24 in reserve (plus 36 operational).

In the furture, it might be easier to just send more base support -- engineers or even AVs -- or simply have the support already on base concentrate only on developing the airfield (at the expense of the port and fortification levels) instead of disbanding your squadrons.

of course, yes. But as you know the japanese are pretty in short of base forces and aviation support. So I wanted to free some of the AS points for other types...
What is the solution now for me and my oversize Sentai?

Thx,
Ralf

Damned if I know; I've never gotten myself into this situation 'cause I would have just sent my squadron back to Truk or Rabaul.

If no one else knows, perhaps you will have to post this up above in the UV support section since it involves game mechanics.

Hmmm....

If you read the manual (section 10.19) it says that aircraft from withdrawn and disbanded aircraft units are transferred to another unit of the same type. There is nothing there that says they will go back into the pool.

Up until version 2.40, there used to be a bug that caused the number of pilots to increase way beyond unit TOE (particularly for patrol squadrons) and the fix for this was to put the excess pilots back into the pool. However, this fix did not apply to aircraft.

I do not believe it is possible to push aircraft back into the pool. My suggestion in this case is not to worry about it as the access aircraft will be transferred to reserve status (you can see this happening already) and will be brought out of mothballs one by one as your operational aircraft suffer attrition.

Do aircraft in reserve require support? I don't know but logically it would be unlikely even if they are counted in the number of aircraft on base.

Cheers,
Reg.

An AV is a seaplane tender -- even disbanded in port they can contribute to base air support.

Thanks Reg. And YES, these excess aircraft count for aviation support. I guess I was wrong [:(] when suspected they will get back to the pool. Thought to have read that anywhere here in the forum some time ago...[&:] So I gonna throw them into combat then... [8|]

Am I wrong or do AVs only support Floatfighters, Floatplanes and Patrols?

You can see the number AVs add to support on the screen when you click on the base; I don't think it's exclusive to floatplanes.

You can see the number AVs add to (aviation) support on the screen when you click on the base; I don't think it's exclusive to floatplanes.

Then again, from the chapter on logistics:

- AV and CS ships will add aviation support to support Floatplanes, Float-Fighter and Patrol (they are seaplanes) planes that are based at a base in their hex. They add aviation support equal to their capacity+18-planes on board (Japanese are capacity+10-planes) . This support is not given if the ship’s system damage is greater than 50 or if the ship has any floatation or fire damage.

AV support is listed as a “+” to the normal supportvalue of a base, so that 30 aviation support and 18 AV support will appear as 30 + 18. AV support does not benefit normal aircraft or the level of aviation support these aircraft need.

LL, you're right: AVs will only support any seaplanes on base.

But that support of seaplanes frees up normal support for conventional ac.
