Map making: Victory hexes

SPWaW is a tactical squad-level World War II game on single platoon or up to an entire battalion through Europe and the Pacific (1939 to 1945).

Map making: Victory hexes

Post by Whitmire »

Dear all,

I asked this question on another forum, but couldn't get an answer... Perhaps this, more peaceful forum can provide the answer I need.

How do I place victory hexes on maps of my own making without making it a scenario? I want to make maps where you can fight with any army in the year of your choosing.

FIY, I'm making Finnish maps, mostly summer maps. I love fighting FIN vs. SOV winter battles in SPWAW, but I've always been disappointed with the maps the game generates for FIN vs. SOV battles in the summer. In generic maps it's far too easy to crush Finnish opposition with the SOV player's armour advantage, because the game does not model impenetrable wilderness very well. So I've been focusing on removing the advantage of armour by making roads much more important to a mechanized army in my maps.

Iirc you can do that inside the map edit screen. First go to editor, then edit the map you like and place the VHs where you like. Then go to map edit (if you aren't already there) and you can see a disk icon in the bottom on your right. That is to save maps, and VHs.

We haev some good Finnish terrain maps but not too many. So it'll be good to have more [:)]

Vhexes are created and edited in the "deploy" menu  not the map edit function
simply set up a fake battle using your map and place the vhexes, then go to map edit and "save map".

They should change 'nations' flags per whatever nations are being used.

Excellent, thanks! My problem was that I didn't know one can quit the Deploy menu without saving.

Now I can do all sorts of stuff with my maps. Here's an example, a hill assault made for a FIN vs SOV battle. It's based on a real event, the battle of Munakukkula, but the map is purely fictitious. Either side can do the assaulting, since the ownership of the hill changed several times.
