Fonts and UV

Post by Alan_Bernardo »

I'm having a little problem with the font display in UV. I'm running XP, using a GeForce 3 Ti200.

On many of the screens that pop up I get overlapping text, which makes reading what's there difficult. Overall, the fonts are very imprecise.

Is there a fix for this?

Fonts (text) problem

Post by pwelsh »

Alan,

I also have a problem with the text (only) fonts-e.g. for scenario descriptions ect.

In my case the individual charachters have blue vertical stripes running through -looks like where there are supposed to be spaces/breaks.

Celeron, NEC Multisync 95,256M RAM,HP Pavillion
Have tried both 1024 & 800 modes-same problem.

Also have tried adjusting font size within graphic modes-lines still appear.

This seems a problem with text description, narrations.

Never had any problem like this before on any program.

(somebody forget to take field break lines off in master doc.preperation?)

Matrix -help & comments please.

Could you both please send me screenshots of this together with detailed system specs. That should also include which system font sizes you use ect.

Thanks

1)Marc-unable to capture print screen.

2) What I have identified through trial and error is the undesired and interlaced color vertical lines adjacent to the font text are worst in 24 and 32 bit true color mode-high color (16 bit) mode not too bad but still some residuals of vertical line evidence. Seems not too be font size dependant.
Nor too any great extent 800 or 1024 mode.

I have not tried altering refresh rates or changing to a smaller monitor.

Any further suggestions appreciated.

Maps looks great and game mechanics seem good.

I run a voodoo 5 in my machine, which is a dual processor card, and the effect you describe happens with many programs I've run, anyway, if you have a dual processor vid card set it to one processor only.

Another thing you might try is changing the font smoothing option in the control panel/display/effects settings tab.

Ratster-thanks !

Removing the font smoothing option check ,as described ,has radically reduced the interlaced lines-a few braille like dots left but now I can read the text and unit reports without going cross eyed.

The user must have the system set up for the default Windows colors and fonts to insure that all text is properly printed. Any variation or alternate fonts may or may not work properly. There may also be some non-standard systems or LCU displays which will not display properly. If this is found, the user may have to experiment a bit, to find a font that works well for his system.

I got the above email reply from Mike. Maybe that sheds some light into this too.

Mark,

I sent some screenies in to Marc, I believe, but got no response.

Anyhow, the problem with the scrunched fonts on the screen is fixable by unchecking the smooth fonts setting. After I did this, everything was in its place.

Though trivial, this problem should be fixed in the next patch. I like the look of the smoothed fonts with clear type (XP) and it doesn't seem right that I'd have to switch back to something else in order to play a game. I know of no other game that has this problem.

I got the screenies and forward them to Mike and Joel. The above email reply from Mike is what I got. Sorry for not replying directly but we´re all awefully busy here at the moment ;)

Agree but also, I have smoothed fonts on with XP, don´t have any problmes with that. We also had no problems with this on th beta test. We´ll look into this.

In doing another check, it's the clear-type smoothed fonts that messes things up for me. The standard clear type keeps the font in line.
