RE: KB in the Gulf of Aden!
I've checked Jim. Till now he has conquered everything intact in India. However he will still have to bring back all those resources badly needed in the Home Island, so my subs from PI will have something to look at anyway. Soon i'll move an AS to Darwin too, basing there more 10 subs that will operate in the Mollucche. He will have to face the problems in the heart of his raw materials production center (SRA-DEI). I hope that a strong sub campaign, along with my bombers in the PI will force him to deal with this strategical point, driving away some forces from India or Marshalls...
Now i have to decide what to do with the Albacores aboard my Brit CVs.... i have two options: moving them to Karachi, in order to try to give him some headhaces to his next naval assault, or keeping them on CVs defending Aden...i'm tempted to the first option....
Anyway, i'm quite sure now he's moving at least some zeros towards the Marshalls. I've checked the airballs and saw that the numbers on Formosa changed, lowering. So considering that last raid on Manila was conducted only by non-escorted bombers i'd say that he's moved his zeros firts. probably going through Palau-Truk-Kwalajein axis....
It will be bloody...i know...you know, right?

RE: KB in the Gulf of Aden!
GH.......NY59Giants is right.....you could get consecutive days of bad weather allowing convoys to get through to Karachi from Aden....if not and KB is standing on the exit from the Aden rat race I think it would be appropriate to use mass subs to transport III Indian HQ to Karachi to 2x your AV there.
Originally I was a bit concerned to see you focusing on taking Kwajalein with all the defensive forces deployed there....glad to see you considering isolation of it instead. Get some recon going on the Marianas once you have steamrolled the Marshalls....you may be pleasantly surprised with the lack of defenses there.

Sorry, no. I play only the Allies, so the first thing I do when I import scenario data is to delete everything Japanese. I don't want to have so much intel at my hand, and (more importantly [;)]), the files load faster.ORIGINAL: Jim D Burns
ORIGINAL: VSWG
In 1942, he receives 1.182.190 additional tons of AK capacity.
In 1943 another 1.866.160 tons.
1944: +1.964.200
1945: +1.622.730
Thanks for the fascinating insights VSWG, I’ve posted to the AE naval thread about possibly making some of the larger class AK’s respawnable. Do you have a similar count for Japan’s AK fleet and its lift capacity in CHS?
They probably do, but you don't have to haul everything from the West Coast to the front. The allies can/will burn through a lot more than 12 mil tons a year by 44.
Australia produces 5245 supplies a day, and you only have to import oil and a tiny amount of resources from the West Coast, so you don't need many AKs to keep the Australian economy running. That's 157.350 supplies per month, 1.924.915 per year, produced close to the front line.
India (including Aden and Ceylon) produces 14.460 supplies a day (433.800 per month, 5.306.820 per year), although you're running an oil deficit here until approx. 300 oil centers have repaired at Aden. So India can take care of all CBI needs, and can feed your first DEI offensives (you should have stockpiled A LOT of supplies in India by then. After that, you can also draw supplies from the DEI...
Also, you're right that some supply runs from the West Coast need more than 2 months time (although not many, SF-Sydney-SF via Rarotonga (a safe route) takes 74 days at 10 knots), but a lot need considerably less time, too (NorPac, CentPac)! So these AKs can make more than 3 supply runs per year.
Conclusion: I don't think the situation is as bad as you paint it for the Allies. You seem to assume that every Allied player loses hundreds of AKs in every game, yet I doubt that more than 500 Allied AKs sunk is the rule for a PBEM.

RE: KB in the Gulf of Aden!
Jim (and Gen. Hoepner [;)]),
if you're really concerned about your total AK hauling capacity, I can only urge you to NOT mix AK classes for your supply runs. If you put a single 10 knot ship into a TF with Large AKs (12 knots), you've just reduced the efficiency of this TF by 1/6th!! For the above mentioned supply run SF-Sydney-SF this TF will now need 74 days instead of 62!!
Secondly, by not mixing AK classes you avoid that your TFs stops every now and then to refuel a low endurance ship. Depending on endurance + distance to home port, this can happen very often in WitP.
Thirdly, your TFs will load/unload much more efficiently, since there are no smaller AKs that have to wait for larger ships to finish loading/unloading.
By not mixing AK classes in your TFs you can increase your entire supply delivery efficiency by approx. more than 10 %! Not only will you have a lot more supply at the front line, it will also arrive quicker, so that early in the war you can build up larger stockpiles of supplies at your distribution hubs (Pearl Harbor, Auckland, Brisbane,...) for the late war.

RE: KB in the Gulf of Aden!
I didn’t want this topic to hijack G.H.’s thread, that’s why I posted the request in the AE naval thread. Let’s make this the last post here and move the discussion to the AE thread.
Basically I’m worried about games where Japan does exceptionally well. That’s why I asked for respawns. If Japan doesn’t do exceptionally well, no big deal, but if he does, it can be a game breaker as the allies won’t be able to get enough supplies to the front in 44 onwards to keep the game from bogging down.
The PI is probably a 2 1/2 to 3 month run and Okinawa probably longer than 3 months. Saipan 2 or more, etc. Once the allies get to these areas, 1.8 or so mil lift (assuming most of 41, 42 and 43’s lift are already sunk) isn’t nearly enough to feed the offensives.
By making the liberty and victory class ships respawnable, you assure the allies will have a decent lift capacity in 44 to keep things chugging along, no matter how many ships Japan sank during 41-43.
Jim

Thanks VSWG, really helpfull data! I'll try to do that and give more attention to the formation process of my TFs...i admit that i do not usually pay that much attention to this stuff...
Now a little China update.
As you can see the plan of the last month worked properly. The threat to Honan and Sian has gone away. Now he has moved back southwards the bulk of his units in order to face the threat given to his center. He will surely be able to break the pocket around Kuikiang, cause at Anking my forces are too tiny to hold against his 11 units, but however the goal is gained and now i have a 1600 AV/Army marching towards Henchow-Shangai from Nanchang. I do not expect to win here, but step by step i'm gaining terrain and in the long run i'm quite confident.

Don't worry Jim, you're not hikacking this thread.
My Ak/Ap losses are high, but i can handle them by now. If by Feb-42 i'm already able to mop up an invasion in the pacific loading up 3 divisions, 3 RCTs, 2 Bdes and plenty of other units, means that my Transport capacity is far from being problematic.
I remember in one game against MC477 i've sunk, as japan, nearly 400 AK/APs in the pacific and still he was able to come back in force in 43, bringing tons of men and supplies from the west coast.
However i agree with Jim that some ships, like Libery class, could be easily respawnable without breaking the game and giving at the same time to the allies the ability to keep on playing even against a very aggressive JAP player

Note that when i say he cannot keep these rates of losses it's because he's not training in China or nowhere else his navy crews. He's just training his army pilots, but only one daitai of claudes is training with bombing attacks in china..

RE: KB in the Gulf of Aden!
It will be interesting to see how the new pilot replacement mechanism in AE changes the shortage of IJN pilots. I am always thinking that I would like to save my trained pilots for my carrier groups, and use the untrained pilots for the bombers (where they can be placed out of harm's way easier and trained slowly).
Btw, I am thoroughly enjoying this AAR, as just about everyone else is, I think. I have learned quite a bit about how the WitP system works. Thanks!

That sounds like a social life. This of course can not be. It says right on the back of the box for WITP under requirements "No social life required"

RE: KB in the Gulf of Aden!
This is the very last post for 2007...in 1 hour i'm leaving[:D]
Gotta say that i'll miss a lot this match in the next 7 days...
AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 02/18/42
INDIA:
Very strangly the KB and the bombing TFs are going back towards Karachi, withour refuelling and reloading their ammos. Probably he's going for another raid, but i don't understand how if his BBs are out of ammos and surely lacking fuel...maybe he just wants to catch the last AKs that escaped from his last raid...i really do not hope for him that he's going to bomb Karachi with his Kates/Vals of the KB...would be a massacre!
However i catch the chance. My P-40s are ordered to escort some 100 bombers plus 30 TBs. Max range allowed is 4. My hurricanes will stay and guard the skies over Karachi.
From Malir the P-39s and the Buffalos will escort some more 40 bombers. The sky should be clear and overcast.
The KB crack zero pilots have been decimated and they didn't even had the time to refill the ranks, not being at port since a week and more. So that's a chance i won't spoil. My planes will be however destroyed on the ground by his BBs sooner or later...better to try to do something when we still have some power.
All my transports in the Gulf of Aden have been ordered to get back at Aden. Too risky for now.
My 2 CVs are lurking in the channell, waiting for the chance to send their Albacores to Karachi...if this chance will ever arise anyway.
For what concerns land warfare, as you can see his main armies are advancing towards Bohpale (sp?!?!). I've ordered to abbandon Bombay and Poohna(leaving behing only 2 small base forces). Also the same Bhopale has been ordered to be evacuated. Tomorrow, when he'll arrive at the base, none of my units will be there anymore.
I fear however that not all my units at Bombay will be able to get to the crossroads that leads to Malire (the one between Ahmabad and Jaipur) before his armies arrives, so i've already set an air brigde from Malir to Ahmadabad, just in case. However the retreat plan ran smoothly. I can be satisfied enough about that.
PI: at Formosa the air-balls indicate that he has moved more planes in. GOOD!!! I've ordered to my bombers at Manila to raid, unescorted, Bataan Island, while my fighters will stay and patrol the skies over Manila...quite sure he wants to knock out Manila AF asap! so to free his routes from/to the Home Island.
At Darwin we're massing 40 Heavy Bombers. Soon these beasts will give him more headhaces over Timor and Kendari-Ambonia.
MARSHALLS/Retribution-operation:
Here we go. All my ships are unseen. Included the CVs. Tomorrow we'll try to run at full speed (10 hexes) towards the objective. My SDBs are ordered to bomb the hell out of Wotje and Maloelap in order to close those 2 AFs (level 3 and level 4 AF), just to clear the path for the coming BBs. At the same time my 4Es from Wake are ordered to bomb again Kwalajein AF...we need some good weather for tomorrow!!!
The air balls indicate that he hasn't moved yet any air assets here...let's hope to do the trick.
My BBs are just 2 days behing. If my CVs do their job and manage to close the AFs, the BBs will open the way for the TFs that are moving following the big ships.
At the same time we ordered 2 more Bombarding TFs from Canton Island with 10 CA/CLs, led by CL Boise and CA Houston.
My Catalinas and Conrados from Wake and Tarawa do not report any ship movement in the area....he doesn't seem to care much about this theatre!
Let's cross the fingers guys...the hour of truth has come!
2008 will be the year where the tide can change its course!
Best wishes to you and to your families for a great 2008.

INDIA:
A terrible day at Karachi. The God of Sun wasn't with us today. Clouds all over Karachi, somy planes stood down, while the sun was shining over the KB and it launched a great strike against my AF. 56 planes are destroyed on the ground and more 40 are shot down in A2A combat. the KB lost some 30 planes, half of which are crack zeros...however the RAF won't be able to sustain such great losses anymore...i bet he's staying lurking there with BBs and the KB untill Karachi will be completely conquered...no hopes to sneak an AK or an AP with reinforcements...[:(]

He kept his bombers at Formosa along with some good fighters assets. That's a great news! He came bombing Clark Fields again, which is completelt empty cause all my fighters and bombers are based at Manila. We retalieted and bombed Bataan Island, defended by some oscars. He didnd't manage to shot down any of my bombers, even if much of them is damaged. It's not a problem however. The psyco effetc of having a nail in his back is keeping him from transfering any air assets to the pacific.

RE: Karachi in ruins...
AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 02/20/42
Seems that he really wants to accelerate his conquest of India.
He sends a raiding TF to sweep Karachi harbour, sinking some AKs...then he sent another air strike from his KB...more bombers and fighters are destroyed on the ground, while some 20 jap planes are lost. I'llbe forced to move some Blenheims to Aden...if they are left at Karachi they will just be points for him.
Again bad weather over Karachi so no counter strike of my own against the KB[:@]
Bohpal in central India is finally conquered. He has nearly 6000 AV points there...really a lot!
At this pace he will be at the door of Karachi within a month!

RE: Karachi in ruins...
Ok, time to update the 3 main theatres of this bloody war.
The first one, obviously is India.
As you can see from the screenshot attached, the British armies are retreating towards Malir, using two mid-step at Adamabad and Jaipur. He has just conquered Bhopal with 4 divisions (55th,33rd, 2nd Guards and 21st), plus 2 mix regiments and the 56th Bde, along with 5 tank units and 4 Eng regiments.
The goal now is to get to Malir before he closes our retreat door. Timing will be decisive now. Making some calculation i think i'll be able to save most of my major units. Probably i'll lose some base forces, but i have enough of them at Karachi so i don't really care.
The KB remains lurking in the waters west of Karachi. It keeps on pounding the AF there, helped by the weather which seems not to smile upon the Brits for now...
Anyway it's costing him a lot in terms of pilots lost. In the last run he has lost some 20 crack kate pilots and some more 10 zeros...which means that now the KB has lost nearly the 30% of his best experienced pilots. Clearly if he succeeds in conquering Karachi fast enough these losses will be compensated by the great objective of kicking out the brits of the war.
I have 4 subs looking for an opportunity shot against the KB but i do not count much on them due to the presence of a number of Vals on naval search.... however who knows...[;)]
The RN is still completely intact, but confined at Aden, waiting for a chance... The KB sooner or later will have to retire southwards to refuel...
The RAF is in bad shape by now. However those pilots who survived are now well experienced and they will stay there untill the end...

RE: Karachi in ruins...
Marshalls.
Now all his AFs in this area are closed and inoperable. The combined action of CVs,BBs and 4Es from Wake has closed Kwalajein, Wotje and Maloleap.
In 5 days our landing TFs will be ready to attack the planned objective, while Jaluit will be conquered by 2 NZ bdes from Tarawa.
He cannot send no more his zeros and betties to this threate. He doesn't have any naval assets able to contrast our pacific fleet.
I really think, not to be too optimistic, that the RETRIBUTION operation will go smooth and that by the end of March We'll be able to advance even further...
