Forced to surrender ?

Post by eske »

Playing sole Prussia vs AI at war with France, the game forces me to sue for peace because Berlin has fallen?
I'm not aware of such rule, and can't seem to find it in the manual. Is this correct and not a bug ?

I played EiA years back and vaguely recall something about this, but please enlighten me

There may be a few AI issues in this game as well. Some are repeatings from other games but this I think is new:

During the war France kindly sent his army one corps at a time, going for minor capitals as well as Berlin, but only to be butchered by an army of four prussian corps waiting for them. All french leaders were captured.
No new corps appeared over the 2 years the war lasted. But during the final siege of Paris (fully garrisoned by very persistent militia ) a french corps (20militia and 2 cav) jumps from Sweden over Denmark and takes Berlin december 1806. (2 milita left in Paris by then!!).
What a surprice - and look at Sweden - the last french free minor. Another 12 (!) french corps and 2 swedish freezing in Stockholm. All of them build up there since no fleets have been moving in that part of the seas (All french fleets been blockaded in Brest).

Was that - really - the only spot Napoleon felt his boy could be safe ?

Besides that there have been two types of wars in the game: the long ones where nothing happens, like Russia vs. Turkey where none entered the opponents territory. And the short ones - Spain, Turkey or Britain vs Prussia - lasting 2 or 3 month and then they accept informal peace. Spain done that three times - never saw a spaniard near Prussia

And then of course Fleets getting stuck in the same area, at sea during economics etc.

But still - Been so great to finaly see this game [8D]

This may be an intended deviation for easier programming. The entry in the original EIA game manual was :

"11.9.1.2 RESTRICTIONS ON CIVIL DISORDER : No major power with a player may ever go into civil disorder. Ignore 8.7.1 through 8.7.5 for a major power with a player that meets the civil disorder requirements (collects no home nation mp) and, instead, require that player to sue for and accept any type of peace duing the next Peace Step with all major powers with which that major power was at war when the civil disorder conditions were met."

If so, it should be in the manual, I think. A lot harder to prevent a major powers home nation MP collection during ecomonomic phase than simply take the capital during any month. (And what about Russia - two capitals?!).

- and thx for straightening the EiA rules for me, gwheelock [:)]

I haven't been able to find anything in the manual about forced surrenders. Although I have no knowledge of the complexities of the internal workings of the game, I doubt this issue is a programming simplification. I wouldn't have thought there was anything dreadfully daunting about doing a status check on each provincial capital.

If this is true it is very unhistorical as Spain, Prussia, Austria (twice) and Russia (if you count Moscow) all fought on after their capitals were occupied.

Agreed - if it is an intentional change; it SHOULD be in the manual.

As far as Russia is concerned; the program doesn't seem to CARE about
St. Pete being a capitol (you can occupy it & nothing happens;
you can take it as a victory; etc.)

- but take Moscow & the AI surrenders. The programming certainly considers
Russia to have ONE capitol - Moscow. I havn't reported this as a bug because
(afaik) it doesn't actually VIOLATE any rules... just bends them a bit.
