A few questions...

World in Flames is the computer version of Australian Design Group classic board game. World In Flames is a highly detailed game covering the both Europe and Pacific Theaters of Operations during World War II. If you want grand strategy this game is for you.

A few questions...

Post by fcam1387 »

I came across this game by chance and I must say that it looks like a WWII strategy-gamer's dream come true. But, I have a few questions.

-How does gameplay compare to War in the Pacific?
-Will the AI be up to scratch (unlike WITP)? Or is it basically intended as a pbem game.
-Any thoughts on the learning curve?

Thanks

I know nothing about WITP.

AI Opponent is in development. If anything, I would say MWIF is basically intended as an Internet Game between 2 to 6 players (3 per side).

PBEM in MWIF uses a modified sequence of play to reduce the number of emails required to something reasonable (from the thousands that would otherwise be needed).

MWIF is not for the faint of heart. But a lot is being done to reduce the steepness of the learning curve.
- You might look at the tutorials posted herein (see the top threads for hypertext links to the tutorials and answers to other frequently asked questions).
- Also, there are 81 optional rules, which can be turned off when you first start learning the game in order to simply game-play.
- And a lot of default lists are planned so a new player can make the same decisions as experienced players about the more obscure/tedious parts of the game (e.g., convoy placement around the world for the Commonwealth member nations).

EDIT: Oh, I forgot. Welcome![:)]

Steve,

Would you say that at this point in time, the A.I. would be sufficient for learning the game and getting ones feet wet, to then be fully enjoyed as most games are; by PBEM? I don't see how any A.I. could be reasonable given the number of options, but I do want something passable as I become aquainted with the myriad of rules and possibilities. Thanks in advance for any light you can shed on this for us.

I haven't given this any thought. My goal is to implement the game to play the different modes: solitaire, hot-seat, AI opponent, internet, and PBEM. As to climbing the learning curve - I don't know what would work best.

I believe that Internet play will be more popular than PBEM, given the gaming system ADG designed for WIF. But that is a guess.
