As a result of Sid shuffling the Alaska Defense Command and the 11th AF in his most recent scenario updates I started researching the subject. I came across this on line book "Guarding the United States and its Outposts" I find very interesting and filled with great information. One interesting bit I found is at the beginning of the war Alaska only had one squadron of P-36 fighters (as opposed to the games P-40s) and one squadron of B-18 bombers (12 a/c) most in disrepair. The P-40s were in the process of being winterized in Seattle, as were some B-26s, and did not start arriving until Jan 1942
I am not a student of military history/World War II nor am I well read on the subject, but, these authors seem to have very impressive credentials. Here is the link:

Sid please note this reports that the Port Heiden facility with Fort Morrow wasn't established until 6/1942 to provide a base between Cold Bay and Kodiak facilities. Whether Morrison's book is correct (I don't have) or this group is sure not known to me.

Well - we had the B-18s right in RHS - also 12 were ready - but we let there be 12 more damaged.

P-36 change noted and implemented already.

Port Heiden was not authorized for construction until a few days after the war began. Morison is giving the situation in June apparently.
