another supply glitch

Post by ndrose »

French army at Linz, trying to place a depot. The depots at Venice and Salzburg have both been there for a while (just Venice should be sufficient, actually). The corps at Linz have been there for at least a turn, too. (It's not a case of their having just moved there.) But the game doesn't want to let me put a depot there. I can't see any reason why not, but maybe I'm missing something....

Too many units in Lintz area. After moving away 6 corps and 1 leader and I was able to create the depot.

Huh, that's weird. I've never seen a "too many units" problem like that before.

I also found I could create the depot if I moved a factor into Linz as a garrison, which doesn't make any sense. I was trying to make the depot with a corps, not with the city. I should be able to do that in an empty area, or even in an area where there's an enemy garrison in the city.

In fact, I know there have been situations in which I've moved a huge stack in to besiege a city, then the next month, as the siege continued, made a depot with one of the corps to reduce supply costs. Having billions and billions of corps in the stack didn't matter on those occasions, nor did not having a (friendly) garrison in the city.

We had a similar bug reported on a depot creation problem in Linz, which was addressed in the first patch. I just ran your file on this end and can confirm that it was indeed fixed.

Thanks again.

I've seen this a couple of times since, at places other than Linz. Most recently in Bulgaria. In that case there was only one corps there, it had been there for a turn, it was within range of a valid supply line, but couldn't create a depot. On a hunch, I moved in a different corps, then the next month tried again. Still couldn't create the depot, with either corps. But when I moved out the one that failed the previous month, the new corps was able to do it.

The problem corps was the French I, with Murat attached. Can't swear to it, but I think whenever I've seen this bug, Murat has been there.

It actually had a lot to do with the French I, if I remember correctly. This unit is unit #0 and was the first unit created in the game. There were a few functions that might have needed a non-zero return to proceed and that would work for all 550 other units BUT the French I would return 0. A slight mix-up in return values that I have corrected.
Thank you
