Sound Problems Again

Post by DTC666 »

Just bought WitP and have no sound after the first screen. Running XPpro SP2, got the latest video and soundcard drivers. DirectX version 9.0c. DxDiag reports no problems. Hae the text file if you think it would help.

Well, first off, check your preferences to make sure the volume on different things is set to something above 0 (zero). Run the sound up to max (maybe incrementally) to see if you can hear anything.

BTW - that's actually a torpedo launching when you select play (you'll hear it when you get things working). [:)]

Hmmm... i've had some problems with codec quitting if i have several things running - needs a reboot to get things running.

Does sound work when you exit the game?

Check your WITP files to make sure your SOUNDS folder is intact - renaming it will cause loss of sound (although, i'd think ALL sounds would be lost)... check the contents to see if they are there, and if they are try clicking on them to make sure they will play (use Windows Media player).

The folder is called SOUND, should it be SOUNDS. Played a few they are ok. When I quit to desktop I get the sound on the splash screen again.

I don't think you have enough memory free to run things.

Memory: 512MB RAM
Page File: 460MB used, 789MB available
everthough it says 789MB available, most of that is on disk cache and drivers and such have trouble using it.

Follow the instructions on this link and see what happens http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310353
It will NOT hurt anything if you follow the directions( it is from MS ) and you can easily put things back
to where they were.

Should .SFX sound files in WitP be associated with a program like media player?

Not sure it should make a difference, but i am thinking they should NOT be. Possibly if they were it could cause a problem though...

Just an FYI, but my .sfx files are not associated with any application in Windows.  I have no problems with my sound, even though I usually play with it off.

Yes, normally they are NOT associated with anything, but i am wondering if you accidentally set them to be associated with a non-WITP application if it could screw things up.

Gifty - if the SFX sounds ARE associated with something besides WITP, you might try resetting them.
