Order menus/attacks

Post by bkohrn@iwon.com »

Running game for first time under latest Vista Home Premium (and have already tried out at least some of the options under compatability settings for XP/98/95).
1) Pop up order menus don't fully display and there is no way to resize to unmask the buttons.
2) Game doesn't revert from fast to regular speed with enemy sightings/attacks even when the "ignore" options are off.
3) Doesn't execute ship to ship missile atttacks and doesn't alllow changing staffs weapon allocations on the targets
4) "Usual gang of idiots" staff box keeps reporting incoming attacks and won't shut up. No way to enter orders as the missils rain down.

AFA #1,  I had a bit of similar trouble on H97,  I needed to readjust the Windows' fonts I was using to something smaller.  Apparently HCE has 95% of the same User Interface code with the big changes to the AI engine.

good luck!

That pretty much sums it up, though our programmer can go into more expanded details. But I do believe you're windows appearance settings can influence the in games setting, since it does run under a window. You can also try running at a lower screen resolution.

To the OP:

On XP I have none of these graphical issues. On the 2 computers at work that have Vista, I've pretty well decided that Vista is the problem...I absolutely hate it, but tha is just my personal opinion.

On issue #2: If you have staff set to ignore new contacts, you will have to manually reset to 1:1 time compression. You need the staff assistant to advise you of the new contacts to be able to revert to 1:1 compression when new contacts are made. That is working as it should, as far as I can tell from the info in this thread.

Issue #3: All I can say is same as above, I don't have this issue running XP, and I don't have a vista machine to even really see what is happening there, as I can't load the game onto work computers.

Issue #4: At times you want them to shut up, and at other times they don't tell you enough. Hard to balance this one out for every one. This may be a good wishlist item though...being able to filter staff assistant reports in more detail for the ones you want/don't want.

Hi, I'm running Windows XP and I'm getting the same problem. I've tried fiddling with the fonts in Windows as well as all the resolutions in the game and I still have this problem with part of the orders window missing in the game (and you can't resize it). I just purchased the game yesterday and while I love the game (I bought the original game and all the battlesets way back in the day) it's kind of frustrating not to be able to tell my planes to fly at high level or my subs to dive to deep water. If anyone has any suggestions on how to fix this I would appreciate the help.
Thanks

What screen resolution are you running at? I haven't bought it yet (soon I think), but this could be a problem. I had another game where I had to change my screen resoultion to see all items in lists until it was patched.

thanks

It isn't so much the resolution as it is the DPI. I also run the game on Vista and don't have an issue but I use close to the normal DPI.

So back to normal font sizes is good, and DPI.

Then I've heard that running the HC settings reset helps, http://harpgamer.com/harpforum/index.ph ... owfile=228

Finally cross your fingers and run the game again and see if all is well with the world.

Thanks Tony, running the HC settings reset program seems to have worked. I'm looking forward to spending a lot of time replaying this great game.[:)]

Hi - another new HCE owner, I just paid and downloaded it from Digital River tonight. Just wanted to add a hearty +1 to the HCE Registry Cleaner file recommendation. I too was suffering from the issue #1 outlined by the OP. The registry cleaner fixed it right up.

Harpoon Classic Scenarios

Just a thought for the developers, but with so many folks reporting this same problem, would it be helpful to have this utility included and run with every patch installation?
