Sunny-Side Up II - RHS EOS <sry - no GBLs allowed>

Post by 1EyedJacks »

Hi all,

This is RHS EOS version 7.7893 with GoodBoyLaddie as my opponent. With family life and courses to re-tool for my MCSE, I've reduced myself to this one game of WiTP. I've had the privilage of playing with Carl (GBL) for a few months now and have really enjoyed the interaction by e-mail. I'll try very hard to keep lots of pictures in this AAR, snipets of different text files as they pertain to the topics I'm discussing, and use this AAR to showcase this mod. And I'll also be inviting coments and ideas as I plan my grand strategies [:D].

In this game I agreed not to invade Hawaii for the first few days - which should make for an interesting start to the game.

So here's what's going on around the PI on December 7 & 8:

Image

I went after Manila hard on T0 to take out as much of his sub fleet as possible. Below are snipits of the action around the PI on December 7th.

The War started off with the RO-33 sinking the AK Hai Lee. The RO-33 planted two torps into the flank of the AK and then surfaced to finish her off with gun fire.

Take a look at the highlighted losses of Kates in two Port strikes at PH. KB attacks from 1 hex out and loses about 1 Kate for every five used in the attack but is starting the attack @ 10k.

TF3 attacks from 4 hexes and the Kates losses are about 1 Kate for every 14 used in the attack. These aircraft start out at 12k for their Port attack.

This turn starts with December 7th suprise on... Losses from flak will forever more be increased now.

TBs and DBs have to run through flak twice - once at the starting altitude and again at altitude of attack.

So what caused the difference in losses between the two attacking units - the difference in altitude from 12k vs 10k?

When Kates used their special 800 lb. bombs didn't they attack at a lower range then 10 or 12k? In the data below when bombing the kates are at 10 and 12k... That's some pretty accurate bombing - isn't it?

Could the difference be that radar located and warned against the 1st strike that originated from 1 hex away @ 10k but failed to warn against the 2nd strike originating from 4 hexes away @ 12k?

I think that I'll fly my TBs/DBs @ max altitude for a strike or two and compare the losses from flak. Does anyone else have thoughts on this topic or maybe pointers they've gained from experience in RHS?

Hi Michael,

Carl wanted a standard Suprise attack angainst PH w/o the invasion. RHS EOS kind of forces Japan to go after Borneo for oil right off the bat. In my opinion leaving 20 subs to attack shipping in the S. China sea when I need to secure the bases would be brain-damaged on Japan's part in this mod.

As you can see, I've pulled primary attacks in the PI to go after Kuching and Brunei. I'm also pounding Clarke and will soon be pounding Manila to take out the airfields.

LBs stationed out of Saigon will revert to attacks in Malaya.

Right now my plans are still to take out Hawaii - but it's gunna cost me big-time now as the airbase at PH is still intact. I'll take out Johnston and field LBs from there. My invasion forces will get hammered but I plan to invade with strength going after Kona with CV support and working my way N to PH. Another challenge I have as Japan is that I have no reserves for primary fighters and LBs... I need to build that up while fighting in Malaya, China, Borneo, the PI, and the pacific - definately a challenge.
In the Pacific I hope to take Midway, Hawaii, and then work my way S to take bases with decent-sized airfields and then fort up, load up supplies, and leave lotsa Mikes with some Bettys and JUs to go after any allied invasion fleets. Eventually I hope to get a lot of subs out in the pacific as an early warning picket also.

So far on 12-10-41:

My ground troops have done very well - but of course they've been able to stack the deck against the allies in the initial assaults. Support, an abundance of supplies, and bringing more troops to the fight are a heck of a way to stack the deck.

Image

I'm working to get additional air and ground units into the area.

Image

I need Brunei to fall so I can get fighters into the area. I've moved additional Bettys to Singora w/Zekes as support to go after Singapore. Last time I started on Singapore Carl had brought the AVG down so I can probably expect that again. Lotsa Buffalo fighters - or target practice as I like to call them...

Image

This is just ugly. I have very few support units to add to my INF LCUs... I'm bringing in ENG units from Japan and Manchuko but this will take some time. Until then I'm bringing in LBs and DBs to pound his troops while I get set for a strong push.

Welcome aboard KTNJR. This is version 7 of RHS and is the standard map. It is pretty cool to play with. Using rivers plus allied production control are great additions to RHS.

This was a very good turn for Carl. And stupid on my part. I had LBs out of Saigon on N. Search instead of N. Attack... I really stepped in it this turn. Here's a few snipits of Force Z and the Boise kickin' my butt...
