INDOCHINA MAP

Post by lion_of_judah »

How does one upload a map here? I have tried but continue to receive a message that prevents me from doing so. This is only the map so far nothing else is finished but I would like input from everyone in order to improve it. Thanks

Mhh, make a screenshot of the strategic map and edit it in a
MS paint or something. Then post it here.
Or do a turn with screenshot function activated. You´ll find the shot in your screenshot folder
as .jpeg.

i forgot: In case it´s a question of size you cannot post it here you should save the screenshot as
.jpeg and cut as much from as possible before.

Put it in on the AT Community site rather.
Matrix forums don't allow attachements except pics, with limited size, and then it's a pain to get them back properly.

The scenario I'm currently working on is a hypothetical. The Vietnam war occurred according to history but in 2008 Vietnam and Laos united and formed "Communist Indochina" With this new unification by 2010 Hanoi felt that it was time for all of Indochina to be united under their banner. I have used current OOB's for the nations of Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Malaysia and Burma (Myanmar).

I'm playing around with how much supply to give each HQ and unit, because at the beginning of every war each nation has a large amount of supply built up, and what I want to see is how much is just right before the steam in their offensive runs out.

Unit sizes for this are as follows, Rifle, SMG,Mortar, Bazooka (RPG) paratrooper and Machine gun are all squad size, Tanks, light tanks, armored cars are all battalion size and Fighters and Fighter ground attack are squadron size. I have been searching the internet for modern pictures of those nations military and have found some good ones. I'm having to use Chinese military pictures of infantry, tanks and planes to signify Indochina, so if anyone has any pictures of modern day Vietnam this would be appreciated.

Right now this is in the testing stage so each HQ has a high level of reserve units in it, but after playtesting this will probably be reduced as will be the amount of supply each HQ has on hand. I will appreciate any and all suggestions for this. Map size is 50 km a hex (30 miles) One more thing I have made national ID's and flags for each nation, and as For Indochina I made the Indochinese flag.

The map (scenario will be posted either later today or sometime tomorrow on the advanced tactics website, thanks.

HI Lion,

I just downloaded your scenario and it won't load properly. The game keeps telling me it can't find the pictures for many of the units. Can you please specify where all the files and folders go? I put the folders in bin/graphics but that doesn't seem to be working for some of them. Anyone else having this problem?

the flags and national ids must be put in the national folder, while the pictures of the units are in a folder named "Asia" just take the Asia folder and put it in the graphics folder and it should work for you.

more detail will be put in the scenario description area with Order of Battles and such once the scenario has been fined tuned. I'm having trouble working out how to keep units supply levels realistic so any help in this area will be very much appreciated.

Try this, in the scenario folder make a new folder and call it "Indochina" then put the scenario Indochina in it and make sure the Asia folder (Images) are in the graphics folder and the national flags and ids are in the national folder, let me know. If this doesn't work send me an email with what images are not loading and I will see what is wrong, thanks

I have updated the zip file and renamed it to "Asia" make sure the Asia folder is in the graphics folder and the flags and national ids are in the national folder and the scenario is in the scenario folder. if this is all correct there should be no problems, if there is let me know.

Sorry about hte password thing - It's doing it to me too - I'll edit my posts and take it out - some sort of screw up here that's totally beyond me!

I'll also download the new zip and see how it works! Thanks!

Lion, could you take a sec and remove the link from your reply - that'll get rid of the password thing.

My apologies to everyone for this screwup! It won't happen again!

Okay -

I downloaded the new zip and put everything in the right place as far as I can tell. I also got the same error message - so I uploaded the screen shot to Photobucket - hopefully this will work and not mess everything up!

Image

What do you make of it? It seems the slash in front of Asia is in the wrong direction? Don't know how to fix that one!

I don't know why this is happening, as long as all the folders are in the right place this should not happen. I will have to figure this out, is anyone else who has downloaded this having problems if so let me know, second thought would other be willing to help play test this if so let me know, thanks.

Hey Lion,

IF I can get this solved I'd be happy to do some playtesting for you. I've been to Thailand/Myanmar (Burma) several times and am going back in late February, so like the idea very much.

If I say yes to that pop up, and the many, many, many ones that follow - the game plays it just doesn't have all the subunit pictures when you click on  a unit.

I had the same trouble, the work looks great but I couldn´t open it. Furthermore, I opened the file in order to see what was going on and, to my surprise, I was unable to find any custom SF. Maybe you didn´t disable the masterfile?

-Already understood what happened. You disabled the masterfile but didn´t create custom SF´s, only custom graphics. For some reasons you pointed the paths for the alternate graphics from a directory different from where you install the game. What you need to do is:
1-Delete the scenario from your HD
3-Reinstall it placing the graphics at bin/graphics/Asia (and the flags at bin/graphics/default/national), in other words, using the paths for the "final version"
4-Open the editor and manually redirect each alternate image you want to the right graphic file. When I opened the editor, no image appeared for alternate graphics, suggesting that you were pointing to a wrong directory.
5-Once the work is finish create again the zip file keeping the final directory structure.
-Good luck.
-The scenario looks great, btw.
