Landbase fighter cap

Post by mingohh »

If you send landbase fighter to a position on sea were you seaforce will attack will they act as cap for the strikegroup even if they are arriving before or later during combat.

I'm not sure I fully understand the question but I try to explain what I can.

CAP is only flown 'over' the fighter's own airbase, it can't be ordered to fly over some other point. However it can and does intercept planes some hexes away from the base, depending on the radar efficiency of the base.

So fighters from a CV or landbase can end up intercepting enemy planes in a raid directed at another target, if those enemy planes come within the radar range of the CV or landbase flying the CAP mission.

The only way to get fighter planes to go to a specific position is as part of a strike. If the fighters are escorting, then they will protect the planes in their own strike against enemy CAP. They will not interact with any other planes in any other way. If the fighters are sent on a strike mission themselves, and not as an escort, then they will not be able to protect other planes in the strike and will simply try to fulfil their strike mission.
