RE: Alien Invasion: The View from Space
It's the 10 or 11 of December (IIRC) and things are going as usual for the Japanese. Besides the Pearl Harbor strike being somewhat lackluster, all forces are progressing appropriately.
Malaysia
Units are heading towards Singapore post-haste. Khota Baru and Singora will have aviation support in a few days and IJA aircraft will begin the pummeling of Singapore. Support units for the assault are already heading towards Singora. Two more divisions are on the way.
DEI
Kuching invasion got hit by Stringbags and an AP lost. There's also a BB force lurking nearby, but the invasion will push on. A BB SC task force is heading full speed from Saigon to defend the TF better. All LBs are on full naval attack alert. Hopefully we will get a shot at them. It's undoubtedly the PoW and friends.
Jolo will be invaded shortly with cover from Ryuho. Other CVL and CVE assets are headed to Palau to create the mini-KB for DEI operations.
Philippines
Allies are pulling back to Manila, so a full speed rush is on to get there and start bombarding and bombing to keep fort construction down. Aviation support is landing at Aparri to setup the main base there. Once in place, IJA air assets will take over air operations while IJN assets head for the SE Pacific.
Marshalls
The Wake invasion force got jumped by the US CV TF and pummeled. KB is re-routed to intercept it's path back to Pearl. I will gladly trade the couple CLs and APs lost for a full-blown shot at the US CVs this early. Many subs with aircraft are heading into the area to increase detection odds.
Tarawa and the neighboring islands are falling normally. One more to go.
SE Pacific
Admiralty Islands are taken as an LBA cover base. Once the forces from Guam have arrived, we will begin the Rabaul and Kavieng operation with support from AI.
China
Pulling back from Ichang and attempting to clear some roads between Shanghai and the front of guerillas. 6th division is destinged to take Wengchow, then transfer to the SA army and occupy Lunga.
Everywhere else is hunkering down and building forts.
USS appears to be willing to take risks. Noted for future reference.

RE: Alien Invasion: The View from Space
The Colonialist's thread has just posted news of surface actions at Kuching. What's the Japanese take on this?
Civil war? What does that mean? Is there any foreign war? Isn't every war fought between men, between brothers?

RE: Alien Invasion: The View from Space
Middle of December update.
There was some heavy surface action at Kuching. Bottom line is I should have waited for my BB fleet to join up before sending the invasion TF. I had a small SCTF escorting the transports, but they got hit by British BBs and stringbags from Singkawang. Lost the CA and some DDs, along with an AP or 3. He also put a couple torps into Haruna after I sped them there to protect the rest of the invasion fleet. She'll survive just fine, but will be out for a bit. But the end result was Kuching was taken and naval air will be moving in immediately to assume control of the Java sea.
Malaysia
Georgetown has fallen and the Guards and a slew of armor is screaming down the coast railway. We'll be in Singapore in a week at most. A fresh division (56th?) is headed to Kuantang with plenty of escort including Taiyo. Depending on recon reports, they may divert to Mersing. The 4th division is following and will land wherever the 56th div lands.
Singapore will be bombed at least every other day from now on to reduce the fort buildup. I have heavy artillery and engineers sitting at Hainan loaded and ready to go. They will land at Mersing once it is taken.
DEI
The Sorong landing went off without a hitch. That appeared to be a surprise to him, as it still shows naval assets in port.
The 56th brigade is almost at Palau. There it will refuel and join up with a BB TF that will escort it to Davao. In addition, two CVLs are headed to join up with Ryuho and support DEI and southern Phillipines operations.
Philippines
Engineers and artillery are landing at Naga and will head directly to Manila. 16th div is landed there as well and has begun to march. 21st div is on the way there as well. Armor is already in Manila to stop production of supplies.
Clark Field will fall this turn and I have loaded up an air support regiment plus construction engineers to make it operational. Manila bombing will primarily come from here to reduce op losses.
The Jolo landing got hit by PTs. No losses and a couple PTs sunk by an ML escorting.
Ryuho will hang around another turn with some Pete's and Kates set to 100' naval attack. We'll see if we can drive them off so the followup TF can land. If not, the followup TF will wait until the BB SCTF frees up from the Davao operation before landing.
SE Asia
Burma is quiet as most action is heading Singapore's way. 55th div is still marching to Tavoy with 15th Army HQ. An IJA BF is also headed there. We'll setup recon and naval search there and wait until the two Burma divs from Shanghai arrive before beginning Burma operations.
Marshalls
After the first Wake operation was jumped by US CVs, I've begun putting together a second op. Part of KB will support this time around, and new surface assets are headed to Kwaj to replace the CL losses. BF units for the Tarawa triad are headed to Kwaj as well.
SE Pacific
The Rabaul invasion units have arrived from Guam. These will freshen up for a week or so while I move some more air assets in. Admiralty Islands are getting a big BF and lots of supplies to support the Rabaul/Kavieng operation. Adm/Rabaul/Kavieng should be in Japanese hands by the end of December at the latest. The next priorities will be Lae and Shortlands.

I'm surprised you're not calling it "the view from Mars"... Or that your ultimate objective isn't to make the Earth go ka-blooey, because it's blocking your view of Venus...[:D]
We are all dreams of the Giant Space Butterfly.

I thought I was the only one old enough to remember that one!
BTW, the summary leaves out one interesting area: China.

RE: Alien Invasion: The View from Space
A gross oversight!!
China
I'm going from memory on city names, so bear with me. I'll correct tonight and maybe post a map. He's putting pressure on Nanchang and the road between it and Shanghai with all those units he has in the area to start. The Burma divs will stay in Shanghai until the threat is blunted so I can use the 17th div to defend the front. I've pulled back from Ichang, and some of the front line in the center will be shifting around a bit.
6th div is heading down to help clear the Nanchang/Shanghai rail. It will sweep to the coast and take Wengchow eventually, then be transferred to the Southeast Fleet for Lunga defense.

Things are getting interesting. See map below. Nanchang is under pressure, though not in danger of falling. Reinforcements are heading south from Hankow. Meanwhile, the trick at the moment is clearing the road from Nanchang to Shanghai.

Malaysia
As can be seen from the map below, I'm moving quickly to cut off any more reinforcement of Singapore. My forces will be south of Malacca in a couple days and will provide the anvil against which the main force coming down the coast will crush the seven plus units at Kuala Lumpur.

Philippines
The primary force is moving from Lucena. They will be in Manila in a couple days to begin bombardment and regular deliberate assaults to reduce fortifications. Air support is landing at Lingayen to bring Clark Field up so I can base close and bring the full weight of the army AF to bear with minimal ops losses. I love Sonias for this task as they are armored and don't take as many flak losses.

China
Still clearing the roads of guerillas. The big force west of Hangchow is about to receive the full weight of two divs. A couple retreats should put them in dire supply situation and ripe for destruction.

Marshalls
The second attempt at Wake is under way. KB will support this time.
SE Pacific
Preparations still under way for taking Kavieng and Rabaul. Tainan will be transferring in from Taiwan over the next few days to provide high cover from Admiralty Islands.
DEI
Troops are on the way to Borneo to take Miri and soon after Brunei. Surface forces are assigned to support this one better than the Kuching invasion. With Nells at Kuching now, he will be hard pressed to contest these invasions.
Davao will be invaded shortly from Palau with mini-KB support. Amboina and Kendari are next on the list, to isolate Java.

I tried hard to catch his carriers coming back from his ambush of my first Wake operation, but never spotted them. I'd love for him to show up this time too.
