MPs saving minors

Post by sw30 »

If you DOW a minor (no war with owning MP, no support) and take the capital. The MP can move into the minor, drop off a garrison, and stop you from conquering it. An unsupported minor should not survive with garrisons belonging to the owning MP.

while we're at it, Spain DOWs Portugal, Portugal goes to Britain (unsupported). Later, Britain DOWs Spain, should Portuguese and British troops now fight together? I don't believe they do.

In 1.01, I am stopping the sponsoring MP from moving into the minor and interfering with the neutral attacking MP.
Thank you

The first one sounds from the info given as a possible exploit

In the second example Portugal would be a minor controlled power not in any game perspective different from any released free state controlled by a major power and they should be able to fight together - and so far I have seen to sign of any example where they dont.

In 1.01, I am stopping the sponsoring MP from moving into the minor and interfering with the neutral attacking MP.

I have hit two occurrences of:

* I am Austria.
* Prussia is at war with France. I am not at war with either.
* Austria declares war on Wurttemburg or Swabia, and they become Prussian controlled after the die roll.
* France conquers the two minors.

On the first occasion, France moved in after I had completed my move, and then the garrison had starved during the Prussian land phase, then France deposited a garrison in the city and I had not way to shift it.

On the second occasion, France moved in after I had already beaten the garrison in combat and occupied the city with a garrison of my own, it appears that France can just move in after my move and deposit his own garrison, my garrison then automatically vanishes.

Sorry no save file available I'll try to replicate it in another game.

In any case France should not have been at war with either of the two minors, and therefore should not have been able to invade/conquer.

France should be at war with both minors, that is what happens when you take control of a minor, all nations you are at war with ar at war with that minor. Prussian rolling is what is killing you. As for the solution of not letting a controlling MP move into the minor it seems to make the Portugal situation above worse. Some other fix is needed that would recognize the difference between a controlling MP and a MP at war on the same side as the minor since a controlling neutral garrison should be ignored but if the controlling MP declares war then it should hold the city for the minor. In both cases, the controlling MP should be able to enter the minor, place depots, etc.

In the first case that's a fair call.

In the second case, France was not at war with Austria and should therefore (a) not be able to enter an Austrian controlled city and (b) not be able to displace or fight a combat against the Austrian garrison in Swabia without a declaration of war against Austria.
