Importing Teams

Post by servo75 »

Is there a way to quickly import existing teams into the league via some utility, or is the only way to create, say, a 16-team league to go through the team creation process 16 different times?

If you have teams prebuilt, you may drop the team folders into the league folder and edit the league text file.

I have not done this in 2.x, but it worked when I was testing some league functions some time ago.

Thanks for the reply. When I create a new league in-game I don't see a "league text file." There is a league database in the install folder though. The thing is, whether I edit a text file or the database, how do I get the game to actually point to that team folder? I can go to the text or database and type in "Vermont Teddybears" but how can I link it to the team folder?

I have not attempted this in quite a while.  I was playing around with some of these files while was testing some league structure items perhaps a year or so ago.

As I recall, I cut and pasted old teams from the old league database into the new database and changed the league number.  I may have had to do this for a few database areas.  At the time, I thought it would just be easier to create the teams within the game for small or medium size leagues.

Another way to do it was to copy an existing league folder and database file into a temporary folder and rename the league folder and file to the new league.  Then I went in with Access'97 to change the league ID in the database and in the teams area of the main database.  I then moved them back to the main Maximum Football folder.  The game had an import prompt when it found the league.  I then made any name changes I wanted and reset the league.

What size league are you looking to build?

Wow that sounds like a lot. I was hoping there was some utility for that. I haven't decided on league size but probably 16 or 20 teams. I'd create some but also see teams that people have put in upload sections that I'd like to use so I don't have to create 20 uniforms! :)

I was hoping a community member would come up with a quick utility to do that as well.

You can modify the default league in the game and reset it.

Adding uniforms is a simple copy and paste of the home and away folders into the team folder.  That does not require any modification to the database files.

I think I'm getting there. I copied one of the built-in database files (I think league text files are a 1.x thing) and renamed it lge_DBFL.mdb, then edited it making sure I put the correct league ID, etc. Then I loaded up the game and voila, it was correct. There's still one thing, though. I deleted all the team folders but when loading the uniforms, the game still went back to the original team folder for the team! So the final piece for the puzzle is this: Where in the league database is it specified which folder to get the uniform information from? Even if I keep the New York team from what I copied and create a new New York folder in my new league database it still goes for the original folder location not my new one. That's the final mystery.

Come on Wintervalley developers, pls give us a hint!

I am not certain what you are asking.

Put the new Home and Away (and Alternate if there is one) uniform folders into the old team folders.

That should do it.

The fastest way I have found to create a league is to use Access or Open Office. As far as importing a team from say, one league to another...im not sure how to do that.

If you delete them, the game will automatically generate new team folders based on the team name and populate those folders with generic uniforms. There is no specific field in the table pointing to a folder. It's all based on team name.

Sorry if I wasn't clear. All I meant was, if I create a league by copying the database file from an existing league, I won't have team folders for my new league. Even if I copy existing team folders the game won't know to look there. I would need to know how to tell the game where to find the uniform folder for a particular team in the database.

The folders are generated as below;

GameFolder
----League Abbreviation
--------TeamName1
--------TeamName2
--------TeamName3

etc...

Renaming the league file does not rename the league and doesn't change the leagues abbrevition. So it's possible that the reason the game is looking in a different folder is because the league abbreviation hasn't been changed.

So if you copy an existing league with an abbrevition of ABC the game will look in that league folder until you change the abbrevition to something else.

thanks

David,

Aaaaaaaahhhhh, so what you're saying then is the game looks in the folder that uses the league abbreviation, and within that folder it goes to the team name as defined in the league database. That clears it up, thanks!!!!

Correct!

Maximum Football folder -> Teams_LeagueName folder -> TeamName folder -> Home, Away, and Alternative uniforms folders.

If these folders are not there, the game will generate them.

Just copy the Home and Away uniform folders (and what is in them) to the Team folder you would like the uniforms to be used.

Thank you for asking. I am sure other community members may have similar questions.
