Feature request - "expected date of arrival"

Post by Feinder »

I've always been annoyed by "days til arrival" on the reinfocment track. Anything past 45 or so, doesn't really mean anything to me.

Can we get an expected arrival date on the reinforment screen? If there's not enough real estate, maybe get rid of the days until arrival?

Adding your request is fine but PLEASE do not take away "Days until arrival".

I second feinder's request. I have to keep a spreadsheet available to know when something is going to arrive.

I may be missing something, but whats the advantage of having it that way? Does it help with Japanease production somehow?

I think it's probably just easier to compute it that way... No issue for me...

I would prefer to leave it as is I always get the US date convention messed up so a countdown clock is a lot easier for me and I suspect others who use a different convention

Well, there's probably enought real estate for both (hopefully).

What about a printed date, like 07 Dec 42.  Better?

I can see why though 12-07-42 could be confusing (I see dates both ways all the time, so it's not for me, but until you get used to seeing it, it is wierd).  By US standards is Dec 07, but could be easily read as July 12.

So if you put
12 Dec 42...

Better?

While I sometimes get the dates a bit confused with the US date convention it is still a lot easier than the days to arrival. It's either 8th February or 2nd August while 171 days just means I have to start doing mental arithmatic. Which obviously is a bad thing [:)] Especially as with the US date convention I am really sure which month I am in anyway [:'(]

If we had to choose only one, my vote would be for it to stay as is... I like knowing just how many more turns it will be and it is easier to figure out the expected date of arrival from that information than it is to figure out how many turns it will be from a list that only gives date of arrival.

I'd like to see the expected date of arrival but right now I made a little excel spreadsheet that calculates the date of arrival.  All you do is enter the current date and the number of days until the ship arrives.  It works fine.

Has somebody got a screen-shot of the reinfocement screens (ground, air, sea)?  While it would a bit presumptive, you'd know whether there was potentially enough real estated.  Frankly, you're talking about adding 9 characters (dd_mmm_yy) plus some padding on either or one side.  Hopefully, there would be room for say, 15 - 20 characters.  But I won't to presume the coding in involved because we obviously can't see it.

Obviously, quite a few folks like the "days until arrival" function, so by no means should it be removed.  But if there's sufficient real estate, it's obvious that quite a few players would also like to see a projected date as well (I say projected, because Japanese dates slide depending on production).

What about a compromise?? Have the date of arrival listed until delay is down to about 3 months (or maybe a year??) and then display it as days after that??
(I just find a 1800 day delay meaningless).

This will obviously complicate programming the display and sort routines but the developers keep telling us they are good.... [:D] [:D] [:D]
Cheers,
Reg.

How about like other displays have now - a switch that you toggle - in this case it would toggle between expected date of arrival and days until arrival.

When I look at the arrival info I divided it into two groups. One is what is coming in a week and the other is everything else. I do look ahead to see what is farther on but I don't keep spreadsheets and notes unless it is something special like a CV or some AP's and such.
I can see the thinking where you know that a certain unit will arrive at a certain date and you need to have transports there to pick them up. I just don't have a head for long range planning, but it would be nice to have both the number of days and the date so everyone could be happy.
