Zipping of files

I know you have mentioned this to us in the past, about zipping Marshall, and it seems to be true, apart from other games Iam playing a 2 player and the exchange of files can be huge as you can imagine, and we have noticed that after a while these files can get corrupted.
Maybe if we reduce the compression that may help, what do say?

In theory that should make no difference. ZIP should be a lossless compression technology unlike 'lossy' technologies like JPEG which actually (amongst other methods) discard data. It should be 100% reversible. Changing the compression ratio should only have the effect of trading off final file size against time taken.

I wonder if corruption of files is occurring during transfer or download ?

We have seen that before in beta tests where game files could not be loaded after I received them. It seemed to come from the xfer.

We have had no problems with zipped files in our current pbem game. I do not see why you cannot compress the pbm files, or at least make sure they arent friggen huge.

I'm sure I could and maybe I'll get to that some time in the future.
They are pretty flat data structures for now.
Just thank God that they're not the actual saved games!
