Aerial Combat Question

My fighters have done their escort while my bombers had interdicted, or been left to ground attack. So, now we're going through the combat phase.

An Example: Axis forces attack with 178 fighters and 256 bombers
Soviets attack with 171 fighters

Axis losses 30 fighters and 16 bombers

Soviet losses 1 fighter

At first I thought this was a fluke. But now it seems very common as I pay more attention

In all cases it's 1941...before the first rains. Ivan's most predominate aircraft is often the I-16.

Can anyone rationalize this? I sure can't

That sucks, should be the opposite way - 50 Russians down against 5 jerries?

I had similar problems with German tanks in version 2.x. I kept loosing them by trainloads against just about any Russian unit, no matter what the odds were. Then I had to pull the the Panzers out of the front and leave the dirty work to infantry. Panzers were mainly useful to exploit a breakthrough.

Explanation is simple :
soviets lost this fighter due to kamikaze attack, your fighters forgot to load ammo before start and even worse - you went out of range so you lost so many planes because lack of fuel.

How about...
Of the 171 attacking I-16's, only two could actually make it to combat, the rest had to abort because of lack of fuel, ammo, experience, seagulls...
The two I-16's that attacked were piloted by Boris and his loyal Redshirt wingman "Expendable". Boris successfully attacks from out of the sun, shooting down a Me-109, and throwing the entire staffle into confustion. Resulting in 14 Bf-109's accidentally ramming 14 Ju-88's, Two Ju-88's accidentally colliding, and a further six 109's colliding with one another.
In the excitement to shoot down these 2 pesky I-16's a further 8 109's collided while trying to simutaneously get on the tail of "Expendable". One of the surviving 109's get's to shoot down "Expendable", and Boris get's his second 109, as he exits the giant aerial furball, and makes his escape.......

Well, the report is broken that's all... I seen it several times. In reality soviets get massacred, but sometimes the report mixes up the losses. In reality I think it was 1 german fighter lost only to dozens of soviets.
