RHSMAIO: Scenario 79 Uploaded

Post by el cid again »

Buck Beach complains that RHSAIO does not effectively use the forces sent to the Central Pacific: he is correct: hard code
does not understand this as part of the historical offensive - and if the first wave is effective - there is no follow up at all. Others have
expressed a wish for as many different kinds of campaign as possible. Well - this is sort of a "cut the SLOC" campaign.

Thinking about this, I realized that if we simply redirect a few task forces (and embarked and associated units), we can
create a different scenario which may both complicate the Allies problems and permit better exploitation of hard code as is:
I call this RHSMAIO for Modified AI Oriented scenario. It is done at the 7.7897 level without any changes at all - and it is
not supported by the installer - having come along later. It is supported by the AI oriented Economic Utility and it is a member
of the EOS family of scenarios.

Change 1: Task Forces 1 (KB) and 2 (KB supporting oilers) - in their AIO form (except some tankers appear two weeks later representing fuel consumed in mid Ocean) - imitate the historical raid on Pearl Harbor.

Change 2: Task Forces and air units in AIO directed at the Hawaiian Islands per se are redirected mainly into the South and Southwest Pacific areas. The Johnston Island forces remain as is, but the Midway forces are changed with respect to the assault element (which is reduced from division to brigade), while Lae, Port Moresby, Tulagi, New Caladonia, and Fiji are added to the list. Some reinforcements are directed to appear at Noumea - particularly the submarines Japan really planned to base from there.

Change 3: The Ni Butai (meaning 2nd Striking Force of smaller carriers), the KB, the Main Body (meaning battleship force), and TF2 (tankers) are all home ported at Truk - which KB may understand better than basing at Kwajalein - and may use more efficiently.

Change 4: Any excess elements will be based at Palau and used to suppliment offensive efforts into the SRA from its almost undefended right flank.

That's it - quick and dirty - ETA - hours or - tomorrow.

One other thing from my original experience.  It was a big surprise that the KB stuck around the Hawaiian Islands for several plus turns making my life miserable.  It caused me to duck in and out and around, and be very careful, with my carriers to strike at the Johnston invasion and follow-up support.  One thing that was not good is the KB exhausted its fuel and limped out of sight (toward the home islands, I think) one square at a time.  This may have one of the things that kept them from showing up later for the DEI thrust.  I know there is just only so much you can do, but, thought any comments might help somewhere down the road.

It works great too - except at Noumea - where the supply sink is a problem. It may be the best RHS scenario - hard to beat.

We still have some problems. AI is SO stupid! It takes PM - and promply evacuates the place - in favor of Rabaul. It is not taking Noumea - sent a whole division to Singapore instead.

About which some good news: it is 3/11/42 - and everything in Malaya has fallen EXCEPT Singapore. The attempt to make Singapore keep supplies enough for a long siege has worked - and Kuala Lumpur is no longer the last point to fall - even when awful AI is managing the defense. This was something I tried for - but it is nice to see it working.

I must try a few more changes - but we are very close.

RE: RHSMAIO: Scenario 79 Uploaded (and courtesy air groups for AIO/CAIO)

Post by el cid again »

Did I ever say how much I hate hard code? Making a scenario is not half as hard as making it work as intended.

Decoding how to do this meant that I got some things for AIO and CAIO - all air groups - so there is also a courtesy
update for them (just aircraft files).

None of these files are part of the RHS installer package at this time. All must dump on top of a current install of files
for Level 7.

MAIO works well (for AI). AIO and CAIO will work better with the enhancement.
